Just found a Santa Maria white label at @recordsafari_la to go with my Santa Maria test pressing. I guess the test pressing passed because they sound exactly the same.

LA was good to me, I get the lore.🌞🌊 But, I’m back in NY baby — just in time for chilly mornings, hot coffee and autumn attire. Feels good to be home.🍂☕️🗽

Shout out to my @b2b_ball crew, appreciate you.

@record_surplus appreciation/dig post.📦😎🎶 great selection of hip-hop, jazz R&B and more. Came up on a lot of albums that I used to listen to in my younger days and super excited to have them back in my collection. Located in Santa Monica. Lots of parking in the back.

record stores in los angeles. a few places i visited on my last trip and really liked 🎵♥️♾️

1 @recordsafari_la: alex rodriguez’s record store. he also curates and runs the record store at @coachella. my favorite of the trip: great selection and good prices @recordsafari

2 @record_surplus: a huge, well-organized selection, from classics to more unusual finds. lots to dig through and good prices.

3 @therecordparlour: loved the vibe here. when i visited, they were livestreaming a punk record auction from the store. so cool!

4 @nivessarecords: great selection of vinyl. they also sell cds, dvds, cassettes and vhs.

5 @astherecordturnsla: packed with rare records and memorabilia, it feels a bit like a tiny music museum. kevin and monet, the owners, take the time to talk to everyone who walks in. worth a visit even if you don’t buy anything.

6 @amoebahollywood: impossible not to include amoeba. i usually prefer smaller, more curated record stores, but amoeba is an institution. basically disneyland for record lovers.

save this post for your next trip to LA 🎶📌

Were you on Usenet back in the day? This is a February 21, 1992 post on Usenet by Lazlo Nibble (Ernie Longmire) about LA area record stores. Check out the stores listed (7 slides total). The group was called rec.music.misc

Lots of archival treasures to be found in the Usenet archives (now available on Google Groups). @iskarwaluyo and I were chatting about these posts earlier today.

Thanks to everybody who responded to my request for LA store information --
I was really happy with the selection out there, and could have spent a
lot more money if I'd brought more. :-) As promised, here's a summary
of what people told me and what I found out on my own. I'm going to keep
this around in case anyone asks in the future, so if you have any
comments you'd like to add, send them my way.

Aron's Records (Just N of Santa Monica on Highland; 213 469-4700 (tel:(213)%20469-4700))
"The best selection, however, is at Aron's Records - for new and
used lp's, cd's, etc. They have a high turnover rate there, so you
never know what you'll find."
-- Shauna Aiken <sha...@pnet01.cts.com (https://groups.google.com/)>
"When I lived in the area, I used to go to Aron's all the time--they
mostly have used vinyl, as I recall, with some selection of CDs."
-- Melanie Lotocky <mlot...@psych.uiuc.edu (https://groups.google.com/)>
"My friend said they've expanded their used CD section significantly
since I was there just a few weeks back--to the point where it's a
pain to go because there's so much stuff to look through!"
-- Don Markuson <d...@tiger1.prime.com (https://groups.google.com/)>
"The best store I visited in L.A. last week. Lots of used stuff,
both on vinyl and CD, plus an amazing import CD section. They
have a blowout bin for import CDs as well -- nothing spectacular
but the prices are good. I found several things at Aron's that
I've been looking for for *years*, including a copy of the WALTER
CARLOS' CLOCKWORK ORANGE album that was sitting in the used bins
for a mere two stinking bucks."
