Fantastic day out with the team from @redangaboattime Part 1.
Explored the wreckage of a Piper PA-31 sunken off Lang Tengah and a decommissioned patrol vessel off Pulau Pinang.

Unjam sites are where fishermen drop coconut tree leaves into the ocean for small fish to take refuge in in hopes of attracting bigger fish there. We had a chance to try Apollo style fishing there to some great excitement! If anything our screams scared away the fish!

Pulau Bidong, never would I have thought that I would be learning the history of Pulau Bidong through the Vietnamese Boat People themselves… my work with @RedangAboatTime

I have met many of them, and I love listening to their stories, and what they went through. I try my very best to do the trip with them, because they are people of courage (hero).

Pulau Bidong gained historical significance as a refugee camp for Vietnamese boat people from 1978 to 1991. The island served as a temporary sanctuary for Vietnamese refugees fleeing the aftermath of the Vietnam War. At its peak, the camp housed over 40,000 refugees, though conditions were often harsh and overcrowded.

Today, Pulau Bidong is no longer inhabited by refugees and has been reclaimed by nature. The island is now open to visitors and has become a site of historical interest as well as a destination for eco-tourism. The remnants of the refugee camp, such as old structures and artifacts, can still be found, serving as a poignant reminder of its past.

Pulau Bidong, is surrounded by vibrant coral reefs.
