ATL owes me nothing. It was honestly a very refreshing trip. For the past six months, I’ve been dealing with a pretty serious personal matter, and this trip felt like a much-needed reset. 🚨🚨🚨 a lot of people ask if putting the other parent on child support means they have to claim the kids.

that’s not true.

• child support does NOT decide who claims the kids
• paying child support does NOT automatically give someone the right to claim
• the IRS looks at where the child lived more than half the year
• the parent the child lived with most is the custodial parent and usually claims
• the other parent can only claim if there’s a court order or form 8332 signed

if both parents try to claim the same child, the IRS will flag it and one return will be denied.

every situation is different always ask before filing so you don’t end up with delays, audits, or money owed back.
