Jasper got a breath of fresh air today—a little spot of relief. And a lot of folks are breathing easier, myself included, knowing that he is safe tonight. But there’s still so much work to do and today was a complicated day, because for one, he has to go back to the shelter again tomorrow for four nights—unless there’s a temporary foster who can step up. He does have a foster mom who is committed to him; that’s who he’s with tonight but she has some gaps in coverage that she could use help with, starting tomorrow.

And across town, Jasper‘s mom, Brie, was remembering her late daughter, whom she lost exactly a year ago today at only 16 years-old. Aside from the grief that it caused everyone in the family, Jasper included, it seems it was the moment when things began to unravel more and more and more, until you have the situation they’re in now. It was Brie‘s ex-partner who surrendered Jasper, not Brie, and she hasn’t been able to reclaim him because of her own housing crisis.

And so I started a GoFundMe in hopes that this community can raise enough money for her to move into her own place and get her Jasper back. Brie is a single mom now and her 6 year-old son has autism. I met the most eligible bachelor today at the @pedropetpals Adoption Event at Petco. Meet Jake. I wasn’t able to get a whole lot of videos with him because he was so busy greeting everyone 😆. As cars pulled up, he waited patiently for each door to open , tail wagging feverishly the whole time until he was able to say hello to every passenger and every person who walked by 🥰.

💞Jake💞

Jake was about to be euthanized.
Labeled “rescue only” for resource guarding.

The test?
A plastic hand shoved into his food bowl.

What shelter dog, stressed, hungry, confused, wouldn’t react?

Jake is 3 years old.
Smart. Loving.
And an absolute perfect boy when given respect and understanding.

He wasn’t dangerous.
He was overwhelmed.

Dogs like Jake don’t need punishment,
they need patience, structure, and people willing to learn with them.

Meet my first foster of 2026! Jake was on the euthanasia list at LA’s Carson Animal Shelter. His story is heartbreaking. On the day he was going to finally be adopted, the shelter made him rescue only. Labeling a dog rescue only makes it nearly impossible to get them out. I saw his story in between my flights back to LA. He was made urgent and only had 72 hours to be saved. I DMed the shelter volunteers and they worked a miracle. They found a rescue willing to pull him. On the day Jake was going to be killed @aesopslegacyanimalrescue saved him and brought him to me. Jake needed a rescue and the rescue needed a committed foster. It truly took a village. I look at him and can’t believe he almost didn’t make it. He’s just the best dog. Jake loves every person and every animal he meets. He sleeps through the night quietly in his crate, goes potty like a champ, and hasn’t met a toy he doesn’t love. Help me get him adopted. Jake deserves his happy ending 💚
