After last years edition, I really wasn’t sure how they’d top it. Yet as always, Becky and the @frontify team knocked it out the park with this years @paradigms.io

An event that quite honestly, even outside of work, is one of the highlights of my year.

An incredible collection of some of the most interesting brains in creative and branding.

This year, situated on Obonjan island off the coastline of Croatia, we gathered for 3 incredible days of talks, conversation and plenty of good food, drink and sea dips squeezed in between.

So great to spend time with so many of my favourite faces in the industry, until next year! ❤️‍🔥

Another fantastic year at @designfestbrum !

Insane talks from so many talented folks, imposter syndrome felt strong watching some of that motion!! Seriously need to up my game!

So good to hang out with mates @sister_minor @misterdodds @garethdigital @louishudson and @katylcowan (after all these years – what a legend 🩷 so funny 🤪) and make some new ones too @l4nre @uuendylau @hinznkunz (Unreal Tournament forever baby!) – not to mention bumping into @hellodenley @justin_griffiths_creative @diamondcanopy @katherinetromans @lulacreates @imbue (finally bought a Happy Pill 🙂) and @signalnoise (chatting dark synth at BDF was so good :) – to name but a few!

As always a massive thanks to @luketonge and @danielalcorn for getting sh/t done and making this happen. Big up the BDF Team. I'm always amazed at how well everything's run and I was happy to be a part of it once again this year :) x

Festival season is wild right now. D&AD’s done, SXSW London starts today and Cannes is looming like a very expensive fever dream.

BUT before the rosé-fuelled chaos begins, the House of Oddities crew are heading to the @designfestbrum (10–12 June) with our session: The Freaks Shall Inherit the Earth.

Because in a world full of algorithmic beige, being a bit odd might actually be your biggest advantage.

Come for the weirdness. Stay for the outrageously good lineup: @ledbydonkeys , @coldwarsteve , @doyrivative , @samarmaakaroun , Danny Miller, @gwoode08 , @nicholasroyh & @nadja_lossgott , @dooks , @redway , @jortface , @barrington_xavier_reeves and loads more.

Huge shout out to @danielalcorn and @luketonge for building something genuinely brilliant in the Midlands for the creative community ❤️

Search Birmingham Design Festival to get your tickets before they vanish into the void.

We are hyped to announce that our next headliner will be Eglo Records boss and eclectic mega-selector Alex Nut, on Sat 16th May at Margate Arts Club.

From honing his skills at the legendary Plastic People, to eclectic shows on NTS and Rinse FM, he’s uninhibited by tempo or time zone. His expansive taste draws heavy on the influences of House, Soul, Broken Beat, Jazz, Hip Hop, Reggae and a variety of electronic dance music styles.

We can’t wait to hear him play on the magnificent Arts Club sound system.

Come nice and early for a drink in the garden and to catch sounds from Inky’s amazing record collection, and Robbie of United Freedom Collective.

Tickets on RA and Outsavvy

We are beyond excited to announce that Awesome Tapes @awesometapesfromafrica will headline the next United Friendship Disco on 6th Dec.

Since 2006, Brian Shimkovitz’s Awesome Tapes From Africa blog has been shedding light on obscure and wonderful sounds from across the continent. As a DJ he brings the blog to life with 2-3 hour sets blending folkloric pop, left-field dancefloor gems and hip-hop bangers. Traveling from club to festival to DIY space, Awesome Tapes DJ sets celebrate the music and musicians whose
cassettes Shimkovitz has collected over the years. In 2011, ATFA developed into a
critically acclaimed label, re-releasing records by African artists including Ata Kak, Dur-Dur Band, Hailu Mergia and Penny Penny. His DJ sets on twin tape decks explore deep, regional sounds using analog-anchored agility not heard or seen anywhere else.

The amazing Nadz and Spezial will be warming up with a vibrant mix of Egyptian and Lebanese pop, Raï, Dabke, Balkan and plenty of un-Shazamable edits, alongside resident Robbie from United Freedom Collective with his usual smorgasbord of musical delights.

This WILL sell out so do not sleep on it! Tickets on OUTSAVVY - link in our bio
