Itā€™s the last day to make triple the impact for @reefcheck_baja ā—ļøā  ā  Weā€™re fighting to keep this program up and running. A couple of our board members are helping us triple donations until September 1st. Reef Check Baja has connected divers in Baja and California to encourage collaboration in a world divided by arbitrary borders. ā  ā  Want to see this program survive so we can continue collecting important reef data in Mexico? Donate any amount and see it make triple the impact. Use the link in our bio.ā  ā  šŸ“ø: @sevengillshark @karimiliya @kogia_orgā  ā  #bajacalifornia #scubadiving #oceanconservation #marinebiology

šŸŒæ Between 2014 and 2023, Baja California lost approximately 50% of its giant kelp forests, triggering an urgent and coordinated conservation response. What followed has become a powerful example of collaborative conservation. Fishers, scientists, conservation organisations, and local communities came together to build trust, share knowledge, and rapidly implement actions to support kelp recovery. Baja California shows how community-led action can transform an ecological crisis into a model for resilience, stewardship, and hope. šŸŒŠ Follow the people and organisations helping to protect and restore Baja California's kelp forests: šŸ“ø@mexcal.science šŸ“ø @robeas šŸ“ø @reefcheck_baja šŸ“ø @luismalpicac šŸ“ø @mas_kelp šŸ“ø @juliolorda šŸ“ø @manuel.bercovich šŸ“ø @botanicamarinaiio šŸ‘ Facebook: BotaĢnica Marina Ensenada

100% of profits from my merch sales are donated to @reefcheckfoundation ā  ā  And right now, these donations are especially important because we are fundraising to keep @reefcheck_baja up and running.ā  ā  Donations are tripled right now until September 1st, so if you want your donation to really make an impact, give directly to them at the link in my bio.ā  ā  I donā€™t advertise my merch much because Iā€™m a big advocate for wearing the hell out of clothes until they fall apart, buying 2nd hand, and only buying items I truly love. So, if you really love something Iā€™ve created, I would love to see you wear it out in the world. Otherwise, you can use that money to support amazing causes fighting for a healthy planet.ā  ā  To everyone who has bought merch: you look AMAZING. Thank you for supporting Reef Check with me.ā  ā  #scubadiver #reefcheck #oceanconservation

Save @reefcheck_baja by tripling your impact, now until September 1st! ā  ā  Within three years, Reef Check Baja has connected people from the United States and Mexico in a collaborative effort to collect reef data in Baja California. ā  ā  Unfortunately, funding recently disappeared, but we are determined to save this program. ā  ā  Right now, your donation of any amount will be tripled by two of our board members, which means $5 becomes $15, $25 becomes $75, $200 becomes $600, and so on.ā  ā  We need to keep long-term programs like reef surveying active and healthy to have accurate data. Donate what you can and share this with your networks. ā  ā  Donate at our link.ā  ā  #bajacalifornia #kelpforest #oceanconservation #scubadiving #marinescience

In March, Reef Check Baja teamed up with COBI (Comunidad y Biodiversidad, A.C.) to train two fishing cooperatives in kelp forest monitoring across BahiĢa AsuncioĢn and BahiĢa Tortugas. Together, 30 participants, including divers and snorkelers, learned how to collect critical data on fish, algae, invertebrates, and habitat health.ā  ā  What makes this work powerful?ā  Local fishers are already stewards of these ecosystems. By combining their generational knowledge with Reef Checkā€™s scientific methods, weā€™re building a monitoring network that is both deeply rooted and future-focused.ā  ā  Highlights from the training:ā  ā€¢ Youth engagement, with participants as young as 14 stepping into conservation leadershipā  ā€¢ Hands-on training in species ID, survey techniques, and safety protocolsā  ā€¢ Collaboration across organizations, scientists, and fishing communitiesā  ā€¢ A growing network of community scientists generating real data to guide sustainable fisheriesā  ā  This is what community-based conservation looks like: science + local knowledge + shared responsibility.ā  ā  šŸ‘‰ Follow @reefcheck_baja to stay connected with their team and get the latest news from the area.ā  ā  #KelpForest #OceanConservation #CitizenScience #BajaCalifornia #ScubaDivingā
