For years, I’ve wondered if I took the wrong path.

Should I have gotten my degree in marine biology? Should I have chosen a career where I could work with the ocean every day?

But this year, I realized something:

I don’t have to be a marine biologist to make a difference. 🌊

And that realization is a huge part of why I’m partnering with @worldpackers.epictrips to launch my FIRST-EVER group diving trip to Belize… and I want you to come along! 🇧🇿🤿

This isn’t just about checking beautiful dive sites off a bucket list. We’ll have the opportunity to get involved in marine conservation through experiences like:

🦁 Learning how to remove invasive lionfish
🪸 Surveying and monitoring corals
🐢 Monitoring sea turtles
🤿 Diving some of Belize’s incredible reefs
🌊 Learning more about the work being done to protect them

And if you’re not scuba certified yet, you can get your certification on this trip! 🙌 You don’t have to already be a diver to join us.

Of course, there’s plenty of time to actually enjoy being on vacation, too. 😉

We’ll spend time on one of the most pristine beaches in the world, soak up the Caribbean sun, and hopefully leave with some lifelong dive buddies from all over the world. 🌴☀️🌎

For 5 days, this tiny private island becomes home.

Stay in cozy beachfront cabanas, wake up to turquoise Caribbean waters, and fall asleep to the sound of the ocean.

No Wi-Fi. No cell service. Just sunshine, fresh sea air, incredible sunsets, and the chance to disconnect from your phone so you can be present, and reconnect with nature.. and yourself.

🤿 Learn to dive while protecting the ocean

Whether you’re a complete beginner or already Open Water certified, this trip is for you.

New divers will earn their PADI Open Water certification in Belize’s calm, crystal-clear waters. If you’re already certified, you’ll jump right in on joining daily conservation and fun dives 3x per day!

In 2024 alone, volunteers contributed 77,608 hours of conservation diving, helping protect the 2nd largest barrier reef in the world.

🐢 Every dive helps protect marine life

You’ll participate in real conservation projects alongside ReefCI’s team, including:

🌊 Beach cleanups
🪸 Coral monitoring
🐢 Sea turtle surveys
🦀 Marine ecosystem research
🌱 Learning how conservation creates lasting change

In 2024, volunteers helped:
• Remove 14,200 lbs of trash
• Release 1,000+ baby sea turtles
• Deliver 354 marine education presentations

🦁 Become a lionfish hunter

One of the most rewarding parts of this experience is learning how to safely spearfish invasive lionfish.

These beautiful fish threaten the Belize Barrier Reef by eating native reef species, so removing them directly helps the ecosystem recover.

In 2024, ReefCI volunteers removed 6,477 invasive lionfish from protected waters.

FIU SCUBA Club has officially made FIU Sports Club history as the first organization to travel internationally! ✈️🇧🇿

Partnering with Reef CI, our students set out to protect the biodiversity of the Belize Barrier Reef, the second-largest reef system in the world.

As part of our mission, students conducted hands-on field research & surveying both underwater and onland:

• Invasive Species Research and Removal: Researched the impact of invasive lionfish on reefs and performed removal efforts.

• Turtle Nesting Conservation: Supported vital turtle nesting programs.

• Beach Clean Up and Restoration: Led initiatives to remove marine debris and restore habitats.

We are proud to have planted our FIU flag at the reef to mark our presence, and since we’re already planning our return next year, it won’t be the last time our colors fly there. 🐾🌊

What most people don’t see is what happens after invasive lionfish are removed underwater 👀🌊

During our recent trip to Belize, we worked alongside @reefci_belize helping reduce invasive lionfish populations threatening local coral reef ecosystems. Every lionfish collected during our dives was safely placed into a Zookeeper underwater, helping divers safely contain and transport them during removal dives.

Small actions underwater can create a real impact for native reef species and coral health 🪸

Huge thank you to @lionfish_zookeeper for creating tools that support marine conservation efforts around the world.

A little sneak peek into my last conservation trip in Belize 🌊🐠

From reef dives and island sunsets to wildlife encounters and late night laughs with an amazing group of people, trip #6 was honestly such a success. Watching complete strangers turn into a little conservation family is one of my favorite parts of these experiences.
