♻️ ONE YEAR OF ECOPRESS SACRAMENTO! 💚

One year ago today, October 20, 2025, I went ALL IN on EcoPress Sacramento🌱

This all started as a dream. A want for change. A hope to find a community just as obsessed with sustainability as I am. Last summer, I shared my crazy idea for a micro-recycling sustainability hub with a couple of friends, and they encouraged me to go for it.

I never could have imagined it would grow into what it is today🥹

✨ We won Calling All Dreamers @downtownsac
🚀 Completed TWO @cltre_sacramento accelerator programs
💡Competed in the @wpwma x @carlsencentersacstate Innovation Competition and received a surprise Innovator Award
💚 Received grants to help bring our vision to life from organizations like @cal_chamber @athletics @pathwater & more
🎨 Enforced an incredible branding & marketing foundation 100% thanks to @aizasakura.photo
♻️ Grown our workshops, cleanups, partnerships, and community impact

But none of this would be possible without our VILLAGE. Every person who encouraged us, made a connection, volunteered, donated materials, attended an event, supported our work, or believed in this mission helped get us here. EcoPress may have started as my dream, but our community has helped make it something bigger than I ever imagined🌈

If you told me five years ago I’d be pursuing my STEAM dreams, building my own company, and working seven days a week while LOVING what I do, I’d have thought you were crazy. EcoPress started in the garage of my house. Last winter was brutal with how cold I was just trying to keep up with demand of our plastic waste ornaments & earrings. I knew back then to cherish the lows like freezing in my driveway while cleaning plastic, because I’d be able to look back & see how far we’ve come🥹

Thank you Sacramento, for giving me the opportunity to build this dream and show just how sustainable our community can be. We’re only getting started! 🌎💚 If you helped us get here, I seriously can’t thank you enough.

Did you know that EcoPress is the only supplier in the whole Sacramento area of HIGH QUALITY filament for your 3D printers?🙋🏻‍♀️

We have 13 different filaments available 7-days-a-week, 11am-6pm🌈 We can’t thank @filastrus_ enough for helping us achieve our dreams!

I had the issue of needing more filament on an order that was due the next day and didn’t have anywhere to go in person to get reliable filament. Someone told me you can get filament from staples or Michael’s but it’s… so bad. I couldn’t get my order done in time and thankfully got an extension due to filament issues. Now that won’t happen anymore! Huge thank you to Filastrus @inniv4ca @shawn_the_dean for the filament & community support!❤️‍🔥

Stuck on a project due to not having filament? COME BY👋🏽

We have:

I stopped buying business cards. I started making them from waste♻️

In less than 2 months, I have gone through over 1000 business cards for @ecopress916💚 And I have always thought there was something strange about business cards: we print THOUSANDS of them, hand them to people for a few seconds, and there’s a good chance they end up in the trash🗑️

So instead of continuously spending money ordering more, I decided to make my own🚀

These cards are made from cardboard that was headed for the dumpster & cardboard boxes left behind on the @oldsac boardwalk! They’re cut into credit-card-sized format using a hole puncher, and eventually I’m going to laser engraved my own stamp with EcoPress’s information so I can stamp each card myself.

No reordering 1000 business cards at a time.
No unnecessary printing & wasted resources.
No perfectly good cardboard going into the dumpster.
Just a piece of waste getting another use.

That’s EcoPress🌍

We are constantly asking: What else can this material become?

Sometimes the answer is a piece of furniture, artwork, jewelry, or something functional.

Sometimes it’s just a business card.

Waste does not have to become waste just because we’re finished with its first purpose🔄

❤️‍🔥 PS. thank you to all the people who sent me that reel of someone using the credit card puncher on cardboard to make their own business cards! Ahh I forgot the artist who shared it tho.

We are excited to be part of @sactechweek with a special Circular Manufacturing Exhibit at our @ecopress916 studio in @oldsac @downtownsac @downtownsac

🌀 Come see what happens when “waste” becomes a manufacturing material. We will be showcasing our new large-scale plastic processing equipment and giving a behind-the-scenes look at how EcoPress is building a local circular manufacturing system right here in Sacramento. We will also have our DIY machinery we started with so we can show everyone how accessible & simple the process is♻️🌍

🚀 From plastic waste → shredded material → new products, furniture, art & so much more, we are beyond excited to show you what’s possible when we stop treating materials as trash and start treating them as resources.

Supporting local puts money in real people’s pockets, builds villages, stronger communities, gives you high-quality items, and brings positivity into my routine❤️

I can actually count more small businesses than corporations in my morning routine. I can name who they are, what they do, who their family is, and how I’m contributing to their life.

There’s something really special about knowing the person behind what you’re buying. Knowing their story. Knowing how hard they work. Knowing that when you spend your money with them, you are helping a real person build something, support their family, pay their bills, grow their business, and continue doing something they love.

A lot of people don’t think they can change some of their shopping habits. We get used to buying the same things from the same places because it’s convenient, familiar, and easy. Sometimes we assume there isn’t another option.

But the truth is, if you really look, you would be surprised by how many switches you can actually make.

You don’t have to change everything overnight. You don’t have to completely stop shopping at corporations. And you don’t have to be perfect.

Just start looking.

Look at the things you buy every morning. Look at your coffee, your skincare, your household products, your food, your clothing, your gifts, your self-care products, and all of the little things you purchase without even thinking about it.

Then ask yourself: Can I find a small business that makes this?

You might be surprised at the answer.

If YOU ever need recommendations I promise I got you 😉

Have you ever heard of a waste free shower?🚿

Next time you refill, try switching one of your plastic items to a waste free or reusable item 🦋💕✨ you'd be surprised how much waste you keep out of the landfill.

We are living through a climate crisis that is no longer something we can keep imagining as “someday”.

It’s here.

It’s hotter. Fires are burning differently. Floods and storms are becoming more dangerous. Communities are being displaced. People are getting sick and people are dying.

And it can feel overwhelming to even know where to begin.

But I don’t believe the answer is to give up.
I believe we have to turn fear into action🌱

💚That can look like cleaning up your neighborhood. Reusing something instead of throwing it away. Supporting local organizations doing environmental work. Demanding better from the companies and leaders who have the power to make systemic change. Teaching a kid why their choices matter. Planting something. Showing up💚

No single person can solve the climate crisis.
But none of us are powerless.

At EcoPress Sacramento, we are trying to build one small piece of the future we want to see: one piece of waste, one community cleanup, one workshop, one conversation, and one creative solution at a time.

The climate crisis is real.
So is our ability to respond to it.

Do not let the size of the problem convince you that your actions don’t matter!

They do🌎♻️

What’s one thing you’re willing to do differently?

Thank you to the @athletics players & office staff that showed up for our January community clean up at Valley High School💚💛

✈️TRAVEL BLOG POST 🗺

Hello Frequent Fillers! This summer I visited three refilleries in California. Swipe to see what I loved about each one! & if you’re feeling bored read my short novel below.

Visiting refilleries is an essential for when I travel. I first committed to starting a refillery back in 2022 after a 2 month long road trip in the US where I visited refilleries from New Orleans to Kansas and Missouri wondering why Chattanooga didn’t have one yet and feeling called to bring zero waste options to my home town. Back in 2020 while I was in college, I had written a full business plan with a mission and all, but it was just a dream on my google docs until seeing a refillery with my own eyes- then the dream became more real.

Back then, I was just getting to know the closed loop brands and zero waste suppliers. Nowadays when I visit refilleries, I am more familiar with the products that line the shelfs and more focused on how they setup the refills, what the layout of the store looks like, tiny details like signage and price tags, and what makes the customer experience unique.

I took a two week solo travel journey during July this year starting in San Francisco where I hopped on the BART from my hostel downtown. When I got to simple, I was amazed that it was just steps away from the train station and a short walk to the Golden Gate Bridge park.

Then I took an Amtrack train to Sacramento where I also stayed in a hostel and took their local train to the refillery. The refillery was right next to a food co op with refillable food and a winery/ restaurant where you can join a monthly subscription for refillable wine and drink deals. I was like this is the trifecta of businesses together, wishing for this to exist in Chattanooga.

Many moons and cities later, I arrived in Palm Springs where I visited IT Refills, the owners were a couple that started the refillery after graduating high school, which I thought was so cute.

All of the California refilleries inspired me in a different way to what the future store front of Frequency could look like! Feeling inspired and empowered after this trip.

Thanks for reading,

Mackenzie
