Escape from L.A. (1996) sees Kurt Russell return as Snake Plissken, this time thrown into a dystopian Los Angeles cut off from the rest of America. Bigger, stranger and more over-the-top than Escape from New York, it takes Snake through a wild apocalyptic version of L.A. 🌴

I’ll start by saying that compared to the first movie, this isn’t considered a great sequel or, to some, even a good movie. I wasn’t a big fan when I first saw it either, and that opinion stuck through several rewatches over the years. Revisiting it recently, though, I found a lot more to enjoy. The CGI hasn’t aged well, but I can forgive that as a product of its time. Kurt Russell is still brilliant as Snake, and I love the characters, costumes and overall look and aesthetic of L.A. My biggest issue is how closely the plot follows Escape from New York, which is still the superior film. But if you can put those issues aside and enjoy it for what it is, there’s a lot of fun here. Definitely worth revisiting if you wrote it off years ago!

What other John Carpenter movies do you love? His films with Kurt Russell are the gold standard for me, but what other underrated Carpenter movies deserve more attention? And if you’ve read this far, thank you for checking out my design! I really appreciate it. Feel free to like, comment and share it out, and hopefully I’ll get around to creating more Carpenter designs in the future! 👀

In the Mouth of Madness (1994) is one of the greatest psychological horror films ever made. Starring the incredible Sam Neill as insurance investigator John Trent, the film follows his search for a missing horror author whose terrifying stories begin to blur the line between fiction and reality. As Trent descends deeper into madness, he discovers a nightmare where sanity itself can no longer be trusted.

This film has only gotten better with age. Its clever, unsettling story, Sam Neill's phenomenal performance, and John Carpenter's masterful direction all come together to create a horror classic that still feels fresh, disturbing, and unforgettable today. It's one of those rare films that stays with you long after the credits roll.
.
I'm rushing to post this following the heartbreaking news of Sam Neill's passing. May he rest in peace. What an incredible talent he was. Beyond his amazing performances, he always came across in interviews and public appearances as a genuinely kind, sincere, and gentlemanly man. He will be deeply missed, but he leaves behind an incredible body of work for us all to enjoy.
.
This has always been one of my personal favorites. If you've never seen In the Mouth of Madness, I seriously urge you to seek it out and watch it as soon as you possibly can 👍
.
Outside of the obvious classics like Jurassic Park, what are some of your favorite Sam Neill performances? I'd love to hear your picks in the comments below. Feel free to share this design as well and help spread a little more love for Sam 🙏

The Hot Chick (2002) is a comedy that follows popular high school student Jessica Spencer, whose life is turned upside down after she mysteriously swaps bodies with an adult man. As she desperately tries to reverse the curse before it's too late, the film delivers one outrageous situation after another, packed with unforgettable comedy, ridiculous characters, and plenty of heart.
.
In my personal opinion, this is one of the funniest comedies of all time. I honestly think I've watched it at least 18 times since it was released, and somehow it gets even better every single viewing. Rob Schneider and Anna Faris are absolutely hilarious, and the supporting cast is fantastic too. It's one of those films I can always put on when I need a good laugh, and it never disappoints 😆
.
For this particular poster, I took inspiration from the 1990 movie Madhouse, whose poster was illustrated by Carl Ramsey. Sadly, like Drew Struzan, Carl is no longer with us, but he was renowned for his distinctive hand-drawn illustrative style. I've always admired his work alongside Drew's, so I wanted to capture a similar feel and pay tribute to that classic approach to movie poster art.
.
What do you think of The Hot Chick? Are you as big a fan of it as I am? What other comedies from this era do you still love revisiting? I'd love to hear your thoughts and recommendations in the comments below!
