MONDAY MAT TALK: GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO ASK

Sometimes the hardest thing to say on the mat is, “I don’t understand.”

You look around, see everyone drilling, and assume you’re the only one who missed something. So you nod, copy what you can, and hope it clicks.

I’d much rather you ask me three times than leave believing you were supposed to figure it out alone.

Asking questions is part of taking responsibility for your growth. It gives your coach a chance to explain something differently—and often helps the person beside you who was afraid to speak up, too.

This week, bring one question to class. Something you keep getting stuck on. A position you don’t understand. A detail you’ve been guessing about.

You belong here while you’re learning, too.

Give yourself permission to be a student. That permission doesn’t expire when your belt changes.

Whether you realize it or not… you’re training something every single day.

Every time you show up to class, you’re training discipline.

Every hard round teaches resilience.

Every tap teaches humility.

Every technique drilled with intention builds confidence.

But the opposite is true too.

Every excuse strengthens the habit of quitting.

Every distraction makes it easier to lose focus.

Every day you choose comfort over challenge, you’re reinforcing that pattern.

That’s why consistency matters.

Jiu-jitsu isn’t just teaching you how to escape bad positions or submit an opponent. It’s teaching you how to respond when life gets hard. It builds patience, composure under pressure, and the confidence that comes from earning your progress one class at a time.

You don’t become mentally tougher overnight.

You become mentally tougher by making one good decision… over and over again.

The person you’ll be six months from now is being built by the choices you make today.

Choose wisely.

Teach your daughters to fight.

Not because the world is always dangerous…
Because confidence changes the way they move through it.

Jiu-Jitsu teaches girls and women how to:
🥋 Stay calm under pressure.
💪 Build real confidence—not borrowed confidence.
🧠 Solve problems instead of panicking.
👊 Protect themselves if they ever have to.
🤝 Join a community that wants to see them succeed.

Whether you’re looking for your daughter to grow into a stronger young woman, or you’re an adult ready to challenge yourself for the first time, there’s a place for you here.

No experience.
No “getting in shape first.”
Just show up—we’ll take care of the rest.

🎉 Your first week is FREE.

Bring a friend. Bring your daughter. Or come for yourself.

Strong women don’t happen by accident. They’re built—one class at a time.

ARE YOU WINNING? 🤷🏻‍♂️

The key to not getting frustrated in Jiu Jitsu (and ending up quitting) is to change the definition of "winning".

There is more to winning that making someone tap.

If you survive a roll with someone at a higher level than you - that's a win

If you are close to tapping to a submission, but can escape - that's a win

If you can pull off a new move that's been eluding you in a live roll - that's a win

If you show up to class consistently, despite what's happening in your life - that's a win

If you show up the next day after having your ass handed to you repeatedly the night before - that's a win

If you can control your ego and are a partner people like to roll with - that's a win

So what's your record now? Are you a winner?
