Wake of the Flood (1973) - Grateful Dead

This was the first album released on the band’s own record label and their first album after Pigpen’s death so the shift in influence and tone was especially noticeable. Transitional albums have always fascinated me which is why this is my favorite Grateful Dead album. Creatively, I regard it as the most significant in their catalogue. I’ve always loved the band’s blending of blues rock and jazz and this record really captured that through the incorporation of horns and violins.
