By linking heritage, ecology and urban design, Regina Klinger's graduation project Vertical Blue proposes a climate-adaptive, socio-cultural framework that reconnects surface and subsurface of Naples' forgotten subterranean water systems. The project was selected by TU Delft for Archiprix 2026.

Q Can you (briefly) explain what design(ing) means to you?
A Designing for me is researching by radically and utopistically visualizing what cannot yet be found in a research paper. You could also carefully suggest and discuss in a scientific paper first, but there are more ways than just writing to put your research out. I found articles that tried to answer to Naples’ richness with “design” in their titles, but scrolling through them, the design answer was again textually heavy rather than visually and concretely worked out. So I decided to hypothetically design one of many possible futures – throwing a utopistic and maybe even provocative proposal into the ring, hoping to find sparring partners to debate other possibilities for reactivating Naples’ resources without stopping at the hypothetical.

I also have the feeling that when we are asked to design, we are expected to “add” to the city, solve every problem within our parameters or hang up a nice plan graphic. But Naples is a place where expansive and visually loud suggestions could create friction with its protected and beautiful historic urban landscape. It needs calibrated micro-interventions that enhance livability and heritage without the design having to be the starring role – interventions that contribute to mitigating heat, drought and sudden stormwater runoff from within the existing fabric.

Therefore, for me, designing is an act of making research visible and applied, and consists of careful listening and choosing a clear, contextualized solution before it becomes part of the bigger debate about possibilities. The design task was to make Naples’ depths visible and accessible again without overwriting what was already there. That kind of restraint – working with rather than on top of – is what I try to bring to every project.

How can soundscape design reconnect people with cultural heritage? 🎶 In Tetouan, Morocco, the historic skundo water system still resonates through the city.

Designing with Sound as a Methodology to Reconnect Water, Culture and Heritage in Tetouan, Morocco by Regina Klinger, Nicola Vollmer & Aylin Yazıcı explores how traditional clay pipes and their tactile, audible qualities can amplify the presence of this system.

A powerful reminder that heritage, sound, and sustainability can shape how communities relate to their environment. 🌍✨

This is the Wave women’s triathlon team of 2025! ⚡

A group of strong and kind athletes who train together, race together, and support each other in all the best ways. We are students, swimmers, runners, bikers, and friends. Some of us are new to the sport. Others have been racing for years. Some used to compete at a high level. Others just wanted to try something new. But here, that does not matter. What brings us together is our shared love for movement, challenge, and joy. 💪🏽

We meet up after long days of study. We share rides to races. We do early swims and late runs. We give each other tips, push each other forward, and celebrate each other’s progress. Even when things do not go as planned, we cheer, we laugh, and we show up for one another. 🫶🏽

This team has grown into something more than just a group of people who train at the same time. We have built friendships, learned from each other, and made space for both serious goals and silly fun. From doing push ups before a photo shoot to racing through the rain, we do it all together. 🫡

And now, we are ready. Ready to race, ready to grow, and ready to show what we can do as a team. This is not just the start of a new season. This is a group of people who will give it their all and enjoy the ride.

Let’s go, girls! 🏊🏽‍♀️🚴🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♀️

Hi! I’m Regina, 26 years old and soon to graduate with a Master’s in Landscape Architecture. I’ve done athletics my whole life, mainly in all-around events, so getting into triathlon with its variety of disciplines felt like a natural step.

Running is my favorite of the three, but cycling and swimming are a very close second. Thanks to my teammates (special shoutout to Rozemarijn!), I’ve really improved my bike handling: corners, drafting, holding the wheel, and building trust and confidence in racing. That all paid off with a first-place finish in our team time trial in Enschede!
There’s still a lot to learn on the bike, and I’m excited to keep growing. I also found real passion for training and racing in the water, whether it's in the pool or open water.

What I love most about our team? So much.
I love how we support each other, share knowledge about women-adapted training, and push each other during practice without ever losing the fun. Speaking of fun, I’m also a big fan of our legendary team dinners, where we fuel up for the next race and talk about anything and everything. That really creates a strong team!

Through this very first season for the very first Wave women’s triathlon team, we learned a lot and can be proud of what we accomplished. From mastering race tactics and bike crash concussions, to swimming in the murkiest waters, we gained experience and built resilience, both physically and mentally.

But more than that, we got to know each other beyond the training sessions. With every early morning, every tough interval, and every shared race day, we grew into a team. What started as training turned into friendship, and in the end, we were not just racing for Wave, we were racing for each other.

With that being said: It was a close one to advance to the 1st Division, and we take the learnings into the next season. We are hyped to race this summer with our 2025 team and crush it! LET’S GO!

This sprint distance in Oud Gastel happened at the end of June, half-way into the season. Florine, Regina, Elisa and Olek to the challenge, swimming as fast as possible through the river (500m), cycling along the meadows (20km) as fast as possible into the 5km run.

When crossing the finish line, we did realise that the water was dirty as we had brown marks on ourselves, hence the water cups were not only used to reduce our thirst…
As always, it was a pleasure to race with the men's team together, being able to support each other and even hit the running course together!
Overall a great race, and we ended up ranking 5th place again!
