Took a moment in NYC to research my next book- an art thriller inspired by the paintings of artist Johann Berthelsen!
First visited the Rehs Galleries to see one of Berthelsens works in their collection- Little Church Around The Corner- then went to check out the actual church, The Church of the Transfiguration, on 29th between 5th and Madison- Interesting history!
Oh yes, and lunch with Will- best part of the day!

“In the early 2000s the gallery again welcomed additional family members to the business. As Joseph Rehs began considering retirement, his daughter-in-law Amy agreed to take on some of the operational responsibilities for the gallery, which had grown commensurate with the gallery’s clientele. The gallery’s long- standing representation of contemporary Realist artists was also expanding after the turn of the twenty-first century. By 2010, Rehs represented approximately two dozen artists and was exhibiting the work of another 100 contemporary realists as well. With this level of commitment to contemporary Realism, Rehs established a separate corporation, Rehs Contemporary Galleries, Inc. in 2012.”

"Summer Afternoon – Tuck’s Point is a luminous celebration of light, leisure, and the legacy of one of America’s most influential female artists, Martha Walter (1875–1976). This exceptional 24 x 30-inch oil on canvas transports the viewer to the tranquil shores of Tuck’s Point in Manchester-bythe-Sea, Massachusetts. With sunlight filtering through the coastal air and figures gently immersed in the moment, Walter captures a scene that feels both intimate and expansive."

"Hermann Dudley Murphy’s Peony & Kwannon is a thoughtful, mature work that starkly contrasts with the artist’s earlier impressionistic work. Murphy, originally celebrated as one of the Boston Impressionists and the proprietor of a frame shop, took a fascinating turn in his career. He abandoned the loose brushwork of his youth to delve into the realm of traditional floral still-life painting. This transition is evident in this painting, dating to 1931. However, it would be a mistake to describe this elegant work as simple, as not only is its subject beautifully composed, but there is a substantial amount of rich symbolism throughout the work."

"Trams in Albert Square captures the feel of daily life in postwar northern England. We see double-decker street cars going through Albert Square in Manchester, with the tram in the foreground stopping to pick up passengers. The people are small and not very detailed, with their clothing being the only distinguishing feature of each figure. Delaney’s painting looks northwest across the square, with the Albert Memorial’s neo-Gothic spires extending upwards towards the muddy grey sky, either made dark by nighttime or, more likely, stained with pollution." The Process of Nimue

Last week to check out We Walk This Road Alone @rehscontemporary @rehsgalleries .

Nimue is a story about the Lady at the Lake in Mary Stewarts book The Crystal Cave. My narrative and the painting is about when you have to make a decision and face yourself in the mirror. Sometimes in life, we react with emotion, and lead us down the right path or the wrong path in our journey of life. In my story, I’m using her as a metaphor to express an experience in my life when I had to look in the mirror and face myself . The reflection in the foreground isn’t very sharp and notice one eye is blacked out. sometimes you see clearly, and sometimes you do not. Her left eye is blacked out, the right eye is soft focus. In literature, authors, have used the right and left to communicate a dark side or light side. I leave the story to your interpretation.

"The French academic painter Léon-Jean-Bazille Perrault’s work Le réveil de l’Amour, or The Awakening of Love, is an example of the artist’s fixation on classical mythology. The sleeping Cupid, a subject popular since antiquity, typically represents dormant love. Since the Renaissance, it has been most famously depicted as a subject in a 1608 painting by Caravaggio, as well as in a now-lost 1496 sculpture by Michelangelo. While the Caravaggio painting shows the cherubic figure lying asleep in complete darkness, Perrault’s depiction is notably brighter." Rehs Galleries

How cute is this???? @alyssaboggia dm’d me this photo of her daughter Teddie picking her favorite painting in the exhibition opening night. This really touched my heart, and I will cherish this photo forever.

Thank you so much Alyssa. It was so great seeing you, your mom, and Lance again. I love how the show was hung as every artist had their space and creation seen.

It was an honor to have been selected by @rehscontemporary @rehsgalleries in collaboration with the @artrenewalcenter .

Suspended in Silence is available for purchase @rehscontemporary . Contact the gallery for inquiries.

We Walk This Road Alone is in view until June 14. If you had not seen the exhibition and you were in the area, please stop in to see the show with six of my other colleagues that are international artists. The show is very diverse in style with mastery and technical ability and originality of concept and composition..
