5/9/26 - Frida Debut 🦋

Still taking in how emotional last weekend was. It meant so much to tell this powerful story through dance while celebrating my heritage alongside such an incredible community during AAPI Heritage Month!

Thank you to AB Artistic Team ( @angelaagresti @rory_hohenstein @epermuy ) and @annabellelopezochoa for your guidance and pushing me to explore a different side of myself through Frida.🌹

To my Diegos, @carraignew and @jonas.tutaj — dancing with you both was so special. Thank you for making this past weekend so memorable! 💪🏼

To my Filipino community, salamat po for all the love and support. Even miles away from family, you all make me feel at home. 🇵🇭 Photos: Kim Kenney & @shocphoto

Opening night is here!

Rehearsals are complete, the stage is set, and Atlanta Ballet’s Frida is ready to come to life.

A colorful portrait of the life, art, and enduring legacy of Frida Kahlo, Frida by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa brings the emotional, passionate, and introspective world of the celebrated Mexican artist to the stage through stunning choreography, vivid imagery, and a rich tapestry of paintings, motifs, and self-portraits.

Don’t miss this breathtaking and vibrant tribute to one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century, created by the team who brought Coco Chanel: The Life of a Fashion Icon to the Atlanta stage.

Frida is on stage May 8–10 at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

A closer look at the larger-than-life world of the male Fridas.

In Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s Frida, every thread, accessory, and silhouette tells part of Frida Kahlo’s story. For Company dancers Santiago Bedoya, Jordan Leeper, and Guilherme Maciel, stepping into the iconic Tehuana skirts and intricate headpieces is both an artistic transformation and an athletic challenge.

From costumes inspired by Kahlo’s paintings to the power, movement, and cultural reflection behind each role, the male Fridas bring a bold and unforgettable presence to the stage.

Experience Frida live at Cobb Energy Centre, May 8–10, 2026.

Within the Golden Hour by @wheeldony ✨ this ballet was such joy & honor to dance and a such meaningful process for me. overcoming personal fears and finding so much fun, there were moments I felt the most free on stage I ever have. definitely a memorable and special piece i’ll carry with me 🫶🏻💛
