Reil Munro is a writer/director of short films and documentaries, and a professional in the electrical and camera departments for commercial films.

He also has an exceptional eye for photographing face-melting (and exceedingly blinky) literary talent, obvi.

I’m honestly baffled by the gratitude I feel, Winnipeg.

Friends and acquaintances I’ve known for years welcomed me the city, offering food, and rides, kindness and guidance and companionship. They said they’d show up and they did. I returned to our accommodations last night feeling like I was going to burst into happy, exhausted tears.

The University of Winnipeg Writing Conference was outstanding. Thank you to Lindsay Wong and Celiese Lypka for organizing the event. I can’t even imagine the amount of work that you must’ve done. I witness it with awe and admiration.

Thank you also to Ben McNally’s Bookstore and everyone who filled seats for our reading there! Again, to Lindsay Wong for hosting and Alison Gadsby and Zilla Jones for joining me.

Winnipeg is firmly on my map of cities I want to visit as much as possible. What a remarkable place. ♥️

On this National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, we invite you to discover a program of 10 works curated by Lita Fontaine @lita_fontaine called “Welcome to the Neighbourhood: Inside the Winnipeg Film Group’s Indigenous Film and Video Collections” as part of the @counterarchive ‘ Educational Guides series. Fontaine explains her intentions for this program as follows:

“As I was viewing this series of films, I was searching for a common ground. A common ground, where cultural connections play out. I became familiar again with the teachings of the moccasins by Myra Laramie and the Bannock making recipe from Darryl Nepinak’s mom. Several of these filmmakers come from my neck of the woods, My Neighborhood.

These films provided a re-affirming understanding about ceremonials, protocols, and lifestyles of municipal and urban Indigenous realities. These films also provided a comfortable and safe space while watching them.”

a quick turnaround & a hectic few weeks. lots of fun but lots to work on 🤠

you’ll always want more from these events, with not my proudest individual performance but killed it in mixed. The aus team came away with a few medals which is always special to be a part of 🥉🥉

World Archery Youth Champs 2025!! 🇨🇦

my practice days were a bit rocky, but by the end of the final practice day I was feeling and shooting good, and was super hyped to begin the qualifications.

however, unfortunately things didnt quite go to plan due to wind and other factors so I wasn't able to shoot as well as I know I can, which left me ranked 71st. individual matchplay immediately followed, and unfortunately I was knocked after my 1st match from some amazing shooting from my opponent. I was hyped to shoot the mixed teams matchplay, but sadly we didnt make the cutoff 💔

even though thats where my competition ended, the experience didnt end there!! the other recurvers and I went to support all our compounders matches, including the incredible hector's finals match at the finals venue.

in between shooting, its been an absolute blast hanging out with the team as well as the friends we've made. the winnipeg zoo was a definite highlight, as well as being able to shoot at a local archery shop with the zimbabwe team. it was also super cool to visit famous american/canadian shops and things like dairy queen and bass pro shops, as well as experience the complete flatness of the land and lack of hills which freaked me out.

overall, such an amazing tournament, I cant express how huge and fulfilling it was to be at an international event surrounded by talent from all over the world. the best fun, im gonna miss it 🫶🫶🫶 thank you to everyone who has helped me experience this incredible opportunity through donations and contributions!! when I get back home, ill be taking a short break from archery to think about next steps and goals as well as catch up on school 🙂‍↕️

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of Archive/Counter-Archive and Winnipeg Film Group’s NEW Educational Guide: « Welcome to the Neighbourhood: Inside the Winnipeg Film Group’s Indigenous Film and Video Collections ». The guide, which is designed for secondary (Grades 9-12) and postsecondary students (undergraduate levels), includes a selection of 10 short films and videos suggested for classroom viewing and a discussion curated by Winnipeg-based visual artist and art educator Lita Fontaine.

The program features films/videos by Caroline Monnet, Darryl Nepinak, Jackie Traverse, Danielle Sturk, Reil Munro, Charlene Moore and Sonya Ballantyne.
