There seems to be a war raging on South African women, who find themselves in a rape capital with daily cases of Gender Based Violence now becoming a norm. Whether its because they live in a patriarchal society, face a lack of social support or find themselves socio-economically disempowered, complex and intersectional power inequalities leave women literally fighting for their lives everyday. This is a fight we all must join, and one of the ways you can help is by donating to organisations like POWA who help curtail many issues women in South Africa face - from advocacy, training, psycho-social support to sheltering of survivors of violence. Introducing @thebemagugu’s sister brand and offering to the world Extracurricular. Which will be available at all @doverstreetmarkert stores and on @thebemagugu ‘s online store. My personal journey with this particular brand has been so dear and close to my heart before it’s intro to the internet. To have been a part of the ideation and inception of Extracurricular has been such a joy and learning experience for me. When it came time to shooting the campaign it only made sense for us to be able to pay homage to our fellow friends and creative peers who are making such stellar contribution towards the the creative industry/ arts and culture.
