El Penon de Guatape also known as La Piedra del Penol is a large rock monolith located in #antioquia #colombia . Rising more than 660 feet (200 m) above its surroundings, you can reach the top via a winding staircase that has 708 steps. I was able to get some #drone footage of this singular landmark against the beautiful backdrop of the lake filled region around it. #dji #djiglobal

A did a hike up into the Andes in the #valledecocora in #colombia that turned into quite the adventure. The trail was pretty well marked in the beginning but got more and more rustic and confusing as we went. On top of this it started raining, which fed the #river we were trying to follow. At several points there were old suspension #bridges to cross the water. While they looked really cool, traversing them was a bit more disconcerting. They swung a lot and the myriad creaks and groans emitted from them were far less than confidence inspiring. Eventually we cleared out if the forest and into very muddy fields before finally locating a main road. I can look back and laugh at it now but wandering around in forests and fields with a limited idea of where we were headed for several hours made me a bit anxious. Especially in the wet weather that made it hard going. But I did get to navigate the bridges and they looked very cool sitting in the lush forest. #canonusa

The distinctive long #tail of the Andean #motmot makes it easy to identify. I took this shot in the mountains outside of Medellin in #colombia . Colombia is legendary for #birdwatching with over 2,000 species of birds recorded. This means the highest bird species diversity in the world. The several different arms of the #andes #mountains create lots of fragmented habitats. Different valleys can have their own unique collection of #bird residents. The Andean motmot is found across all three major cordilleras of the Andes in Colombia but only on the Easterb side of the mountains in Ecuador, Bolivia, & Peru. Motmots use these lush, productive montane forests to feed on a variety of fruit and insects. Their tails have unique “raquet” shape feathers on the end which gives them a very elegant look. #birds #birding #naturephotography #nature #wildlifephotography #wildlife #canonphotography #canonusa #shotoncanon #teamcanon #colombiatravel #birdstagram #birdsofinstagram #naturegram #birdphotography #southamerica #antioquia #birdpics #birdphotos #forest #avian #pajaro #pajaros

Would you trust this #suspensionbridge in the #jungle ? Hiking in the #valledecocora in the #quindio region of #colombia we encountered a series of similar #bridges. It started raining and the trail got more and more muddy. The wooden planks seemed pretty sketchy but it held even my weight when I went over last. Although not very high, the did swing quite a bit as I attempted to navigate them. Looking back now I can laugh at having had an adventure but the experience was a bit intense while I was in the middle of it. #bridge #nature #naturephotography #landscape #landscapephotography #travelgram #travelphotography #travel #canonusa #canonphotography #teamcanon #shotoncanon #colombiatravel #southamerica #cocoravalley #hiking #hikingadventures #hike #naturegram #safetythird #colombia🇨🇴 #andes #colombiaturismo #junglehike

One of my favorite places to be around #christmas had to be #cali #colombia . Most of the city is dressed up in #christmaslights . The promenade down by the river was easily the best place to be, with massive trees covered in long streamers of lights and large tunnels of lights to walk through. It was pretty magical experience. #travel #travelphotography #travelgram #iphone #shotoniphone #colombia🇨🇴 #aroundtheworld #seetheworld #traveltheworld #traveltheglobe #instapassport #globetrotter #merrychristmas #merrychristmas🎄#christmastime #southamerica

One of the biggest surprises to me about the city of #medellin was the vibrant #streetart wherever you went. Stunning visuals in bold, bright colors could be found around every corner. My favorite area was right near the Jardin Botanico where the large #pillars holding up the rail system were all covered with large designs. These were massive canvases but the #artwork that was desolated on them was impressive. This #portrait of a #woman among them. It’s impressive how the artist used so much black so the negative space forms the face. This has an almost tattoo like quality to it. Much like tattoos the artwork displayed on this city show its character. #antioquia #colombia #colombia🇨🇴 #southamerica #canonusa #canonphotography #teamcanon #shotoncanon #streetphotography #urbanphotography #cityphotography #citystreets #medellincolombia #medellín #travelphotography #travelgram #travel #yourshotphotographer #fstoppers #streetartistry #graffiti #graffitiart #mural #streetmural
