Sharks inspire a special kind of fervor and dedication in the people that spend time with them. Our guide @wildlifewithryan told us about his first encounter swimming with large sharks, above water his head filled with fearful things he had seen on tv, a stark contrast to the mix of calm, awe, and enthusiasm when coming face to face with these beautiful creatures who so clearly experience a mutual curiosity. People like @remuna featured in this image “get hooked” so to speak and end up wanting to come out as often as possible to interact with and document them. Almost inevitably, those that spend time with sharks, swim away with a desire to protect them and see an ocean filled with more of them and the return of the true giants to their previous numbers. It’s no wonder the Polynesians and many other ocean people honoured shark Gods for millennia.

Diving with our beautiful Bull sharks in Florida 🦈 When you spend time in the water with sharks, you realize how terribly they have been misrepresented and misunderstood. They are not the mindless monsters they are portrayed to be by the media. Sharks are intelligent, curious, and sentient animals that have evolved over 400 million years to become the ocean’s top predator, keeping it healthy and balanced, but almost all shark attacks are a case of mistaken identity.

Bull sharks in particular get an unjust reputation, mostly because their unique ability to live in both saltwater and freshwater brings them into closer contact with humans, often in low visibility or brackish water. However, this incredible species is actually quite shy and getting up close while photographing them in their environment is always a privilege and amazing experience.

After witnessing the bull sharks senselessly killed during the Florida “tournament”, it’s good to see others alive, but they need us now more than ever to speak up and fight for their protection. Please check the link in my bio for petitions to ban shark fishing tournaments in the US and actions to help save sharks in Florida 🙏

Humans are the most dangerous threat to the planet, killing billions of wildlife every year compared to the 10 or so shark related fatal attacks on humans every year. A few days ago we came across this large Dusky Shark (endangered species) with some sort of rope and debri entanglement. The pics don't do justice but the shark was hurting, broken jaw, lacerations, looked like it hadn't eaten in a while etc, shark was in bad shape. Long story short we cut the debris off and fed him all the rest of the tuna we had. Hopefully the shark will be able to rebound and make it, was one of the most injured sharks we've ever seen (out of tens of thousands)...Stay tuned for more video and a recounts of the rescue, hopefully it goes viral!!!
