There’s something special that happens after the last round ends.

The mats are quiet, the intensity fades, and people who were just trying to submit each other a few minutes ago end up sitting side by side—talking about life. Work, family, struggles, wins, goals… real conversations.

Jiu jitsu brings people together through shared effort, but it’s those moments after training that build something deeper. The friendships formed here aren’t just about techniques or stripes—they’re built on trust, vulnerability, and showing up for each other on and off the mats.

Over time, those conversations turn teammates into a true community.

It’s not just about getting better at jiu jitsu. It’s about growing as people, together.

-What is your after training conversations about?-

It’s an honor

Sharing the mats is a privilege that I don’t take lightly, especially after years of training.

Taking care of my teammates is part of what Jiu Jitsu is about. We rise by lifting others.

Mopping the mats is a meditation, it cements the practice and closes it. I’m often reflecting on how lucky I am to have even been able to train - because in past I’ve had injuries that took me off the mats for months. That sucked.

I also want to show, not just tell, my training partners that they mean something to me. If jiu jitsu and martial arts has taught me anything, it’s that talk is cheap but action carries weight.

Much love to anyone who I’ve shared the mats with 🫡
I appreciate you tremendously.

Opinions don’t pay my bills

I need to know who that man is
That man on the other side of his doubts
That man devoid of complacent comfort
That man with vices eradicated
That man who runs towards hard work
That man who slows to be in deep presence with those he adores
That man who has grown fond of violence but chooses peace
That man that reacts with a quiet humble steady in the presence of emotional turmoil or otherwise
That man who loves fiercely, freely and without need of reciprocation
That man who revels in the presence of a storm, knowing they are one
That man who knows no defeat for it only comes in lack of effort
That man who strives valiantly amidst adversity
That man who walks in confident swagger and an open heart
That man who does not let circumstance dictate his internal state
That man who meets frustration as a humble student in his quest for patience
That man who chooses himself
That man who refuses to forsake that young boy still inside
That man who fights, dances and sings to keep that boy playing… always playing

You see I need to know that man
I want to introduce him to my son, my daughter, my sister, my father, my mother, my wife.

Anything less than that man is not acceptable for the man I am now

I need to know that man. I will know that man. I am building him.

50/50 is unique in the name that you and the opponent have the same even position but hw one who knows the position better will have the upper hand. Try these out and let us know what you think!!

Gentlemen, let’s talk about our feelings
Call it what you will, I see too many men falling short in this arena.
Your emotions are a super power. Tap into them, don’t tap out to them.
Growing up I was called many different words for the sensitive dude I am. These days, that “sensitivity” is the greatest unlock and level up I could have asked for.
Get your emotional reps too.
Afraid to air out what you’re feeling for fear of judgement?
That’s real man, I get it.
Personally, I journal or write things down in my iPhone notes just to get things out. Then I revisit and refine when and where it’s needed.
Fill that blank canvas and empty yourself of the turmoil. But don’t stop there. Look at it after.
Study yourself and your language when you’re emotionally charged. Emotions can be constructive or destructive - we get to choose.

I chose clarity over chaos.
I chose preparations I can control.
I chose sovereignty over my actions.
I will become the man I aspire to be through my everyday actions, habits and conduct.
Not to be better than others.
To be better than the man I was yesterday.
I hold myself accountable to that metric every damn day.
My commitment is stronger than my mood, but there are days where my mood does get the better of me.
This is where the self respect and preparation comes in.
I didn’t come this far to JUST come this far.
I need to find out who I am on the other side of adversity.
On the other side of feeling what I feel.
I feel it without becoming it.
Sending strength to whomever reads this.

I confused martyrdom with masculinity ❌

I thought running myself into the ground, overcommitting, and pushing my nervous system until it broke was the mark of a provider. I was performing strength while internally drowning.
What I learned is that a default ‘yes’ is not noble; it is a profound dysregulator. Saying ‘no’ is not a superpower; it is a strict operational barricade required to protect my focus and my energy.
So what changed? I dropped the cliché of ‘not pouring from an empty cup’ and faced a colder, structural reality: You cannot express power you cannot contain. Rest is part of the work, not a break from it. Today, I rest without collapsing, and I push without breaking.

I do not pour from a cup that has nothing to give.

Honor yourself
Hold the line
Be a man who’s word stands for something
Be a man who’s word holds value in your community
In a world of constant change and tumultuous circumstances - don’t break promises to yourself.
The most important relationship we as men keep are the ones with ourselves.
We are what we repeatedly do.
When we train our central nervous system that we keep promises to ourself, we build in parallel both confidence, resilience and confidence.
Be resolute in the care you take of yourself and you’ll be amazed at how this impacts the world around you.
Seek nothing outside yourself.
Real change comes from the inside.

Sending love and strength to whoever is reading this.

Suffering and discomfort are the raw materials required to build your capacity, emotional regulation and self trust.

I used to ask God for blessings. I felt he didn’t listen because I was only met with adversity.

That adversity was his blessing. He was giving the opportunity to prove my strength so that I could hold the blessings.

Now I don’t pray for the blessing, I pray to be given the opportunity to prove I have what it takes to hold it first.
