![Skydive Dubai family 🩵 Thank you for 4 incredible seasons!! What a place to call work, with everyone around happy and vibing and high on life. It was once a far-off dream to work at Skydive Dubai - the one job that could finally bring me home after 10 years working abroad. And it was time to come home.
We spend so much of our lives at work, that time should be fulfilling. Before skydiving, I worked as a canoe guide, whitewater raft guide and yacht delivery crew around the world. These were also just dreams to begin with, and step by step I lived them all out, until a new dream led me onwards.
To get into skydiving, I flew to New Zealand on a mission. I hitchhiked around the country stopping in at all the dropzones to find a position as a packer or ground crew. A foot in the door. I was late to the party and everyone had their crew for the season, so I spent the summer working in bars and kayak coaching while making connections. NZ is hard, and there was even a 2 week period where I was homeless, sleeping in the woods, showering at the petrol station and working at the bar. I was willing to make sacrifices.
One of my biggest freedoms in life is that I am not afraid of discomfort, nor of having zero. Far more important to me is the dream I am working towards and living. Many people don't even start on their goals because the way ahead isn't certain, but when you fully commit yourself to it, the universe has a magical way of putting the next stepping stone in front of you.
The opportunity cost of comfort and fear is ridiculous. Knowing this has changed my life, and looking back at everything that has happened along my path is literally overwhelming. Give up the comfort of certainty and your reality will be far beyond what you even dreamed of. Is fear going to stop us from living our wildest dreams? Allow yourself the freedom to dream, and then start - the universe does the rest.
And so, I have resigned from my dream job at Skydive Dubai; I have given up the comfort of my life, my friends, my hobbies and my home to pursue the biggest opportunity I have yet created.
