We’ve been exposing child s*x abuse dolls on Amazon for almost a year.

Despite significant coverage from national news outlets, being condemned in Australian Parliament, and three and a half thousand emails from you, Amazon continues to sell replica little girls to p*edophiles for their practice of child s*xual abuse.

We’ve highlighted the cases of three Australian doll owners charged with s*xual offences against children. One of these was Jason William Forbes, whose plot to kidnap a child and keep them in his soundproofed attic was exposed when Border Force intercepted a second child s*x abuse doll he had ordered.

By hosting and facilitating the sale of child s*x abuse dolls, Amazon is complicit.

Amazon is providing predators with the tools to practice child s*xual abuse. And when we call on them to stop, they claim to have “strict policies” against the dolls – but continue to advertise and sell them.

It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and for some companies, supposedly a free pass to s*xually exploit women’s bodies to flog their products and services.

Over the years, we’ve exposed unethical corporates hijacking breast cancer awareness for their own gain, attempting to legitimise their s*xualisation and objectification of women’s bodies with a token donation to a breast cancer charity.

In 2014 we called out the Bavarian Bier Café for their s*xist ad treating women as meat. The advertisement for racks of pork ribs featured two women in low cut dresses on either side of a fully dressed man in front of a plate of ribs, paired with the slogan “We’ve got the best racks.”

When the ad was posted to Facebook, the restaurant chain announced that for every rack sold, they would donate $1 to a breast cancer charity – as though using women’s breasts to advertise an unrelated product and equating women with meat could be justifiable if accompanied by a donation to breast cancer.

We asked the restaurant, how are women who are undergoing treatment for breast cancer – which may include the removal of one or both breasts to save their life – supposed to feel about your invitation to s*xualise and judge women’s breasts?

As a result of complaints, the Bavarian Bier Café’s #BESTRACK ad was withdrawn.

Every girl deserves the right to childhood.

A childhood where she can grow, learn and discover who she is without being s*xualised, exploited or exposed to harmful s*xual content.

And together, we’re helping make that childhood safer.

YOU have stood with us as we pushed for changes that will make a real difference for girls growing up in Australia:

→ Age assurance requirements to help protect children from early exposure to p*rnography.

→ A minimum age of 16 for social media accounts, helping protect younger girls from environments where they can be exposed to s*xualised content and material promoting or normalising body hatred, eating disorders and self-harm.

These changes came after years of advocacy from organisations, experts, survivors and ordinary Australians refusing to accept that children should simply learn to navigate adult harms.

YOU have been part of that push.

There is much more to do. But this International Day of the Girl, we’re also taking stock of what we’ve already helped change - and what those changes can mean for the girls growing up behind us.

Would you know if someone’s glasses were filming you?

Camera-equipped smart glasses are becoming increasingly common - and so are concerns about how they’re being used.

Researchers have documented men using them to covertly film women in everyday settings. Women have discovered footage of themselves online only after the fact. And councils, schools, courts and other institutions are now grappling with what this technology means for privacy and consent.

At the same time, smart glasses can have genuinely valuable uses, particularly for people who are blind or have low vision.

So where should the line be drawn?

Our latest article looks at the benefits, the risks, how smart glasses are actually being used - and whether our laws and safeguards are keeping up.

Saving women, not ‘boobies’: The s*xualisation of breast cancer

October - Breast Cancer Awareness Month - is just days away. For many sufferers and survivors of breast cancer, this can be a difficult time.

One reason for this is the s*xualisation of breast cancer and breast cancer ‘awareness’ campaigns – campaigns that reduce women to their breasts and equate their worth with perky, in-tact breasts, with slogans like ‘I love boobies’, ‘Save Second Base’, or ‘Save the TaTas’.

Some companies even try to justify their s*xist and exploitative treatment of women under the guise of ‘raising awareness’, or by making a token donation to a breast cancer charity.

Women experiencing breast cancer deserve to be treated with dignity, as whole people rather than a pair of breasts, and to not have their illness s*xualised and trivialised.

Collective Shout campaigner @renee_chopping recently joined XRAY FM in Portland, Oregon, for a conversation about women’s safety and preventing s*xual violence.

We can teach women every warning sign and precaution in the book. But prevention cannot keep placing the burden on women to anticipate what dangerous men might do.

We need to ask what the men around perpetrators are seeing, laughing along with and ignoring.

Male violence against women is a men's issue.
