I’m excited (and nervous) to sing the national anthem at this Saturday’s @decaturfc (Women’s Semi-Pro Soccer Team) match!

Last year was actually my first time ever singing the national anthem in public so I tried to keep is classic.😅
Special thanks to CM, Joel, Julian, O’Sullivan’s and the entire team for their continued support! 🙏🏾💖

Today, Sole Play was honored to receive the House Resolution Award, a recognition of the work we’re doing to uplift our community and create meaningful opportunities in fashion, gaming, and beyond.

We’re incredibly grateful to Representative Omari Crawford and the Georgia House of Representatives for acknowledging our mission to bridge the digital gap, inspire creativity, and support the next generation of leaders.

While this photo captures some of our incredible team, we are missing several key members who have been instrumental in making this vision a reality. This award is a testament to the collective efforts of the entire Sole Play family.

This recognition reminds us that the work we do matters and that our dedication to community impact does not go unnoticed. Thank you to everyone who continues to support us—we do this for you, and with you. Here’s to building together and creating even greater impact in the future!

boo hoo now they looking for you
they done paid you celebrity so you come through
see they ask you what’s new
see they need new lies
and the right gossip will put you in the limelight
make you choose money, booze, a new boo over life
wanna tell you to do better but won’t tell you what’s right
they say what makes you smile cuz remember ya’ll tight
yes thick as thieves, they say through thick and thin
but only if you’re winning and sinnin’ that’s when they’re in
so when they leave and come back again,
just make sure you tell them
that i’m fly
like a bird you’ll fly..

“Numbers” by Renee Gardner

This song immediately came to mind after hearing this boondocks track. I’ve been excited to share this because I really do see numbers everywhere!

I decided that posting the acapella definitely works best for socials (like reels and tik tok) because I can include the original track, but the song can only be 1min 30sec.

Of course I didn’t think of that until it was already done so I’m going to consider posting to youtube (don’t want any copyright strikes) or creating a whole new track for this melody *cough cough @coldsouljah*

I have a few songs I’ve written this way. Now that my studio is back up I’ll be recording and sharing some more. Enjoy!

Update: I added the missing piece to my story. It’ll be under 2024 highlights in case you’re reading this later. 😄

Happy 404 Day!! Last year @thesociallifeofleah invited me to @redbull’s awesome 404 Day Dinner where I sat amongst some of the city’s most influential creators and influencers and had great discussions about our city and culture. As you can see @fruitionhatco got me right with my first ever custom hat!

I was (and still am) super grateful to be recognized and invited to events like this. Because most of my work isn’t done under some big title at a popular company and because I’m not repped by some popular manager, agency or PR company, I don’t get invited to many (close to any) of these events since I left the media side.

Thank you for seeing me.

This year, I’m working on a few things that will hopefully help me make more of an impact on our community.

Also, special thanks to @femalexec cuz ultimately she’s the reason I was in the room. 😘 #MuchLove.

Real, no faker. 😆

In case you can’t tell, I was explaining how “Come Together” came about. I love to “sample” the melodies, feelings, words from the legends that came before us. That’s hip-hop, right?

And yes, this is not a studio voice. I don’t expect my engineer to be a magician. 🤣

Renee Gardner: “Welcome to the Groovetape”
Intro from HipHopSoul 2: The Groovetape

Did you know Peace of Mind was not my first project?

We’ve been through a few different platforms and mediums before landing on the big streaming companies (when mixtapes were still a thing) so it’s easy to forget how much work some of your favorite indie artists have put in over the years.

Hope you’re enjoying this walk down memory lane with me.

“Tell Me” by Renee Gardner

Back in the day @patchwerkstudio @pwrmarketing hosted a competition where 3 artists/producers would be chosen to work with @sonnydigital by the music they recorded and submitted from their cool portable studio concept, the Werkstation.

I ended up as one of the winners and though I’m still holding out for that session (they tried to give me free studio time to make up for the delay but I know God got me 😅).
