On September 2nd, I had the honor of joining seven other acclaimed HK chefs for the r é n In the Kitchen Charity Night at The Mira Hong Kong, an eight-course, wine-paired evening cooked for 200 guests, all in service of something bigger than dinner.
Of course, I had to serve my signature caviar tart, 200 of them 😊
Every dish that night went toward funding r é n’s mission: giving Hong Kong’s underprivileged youth real career opportunities in food and hospitality. Grateful to Foodie and r é n for pulling together such an incredible line-up, and grateful for every guest who showed up to give back.
Turning my passion into purpose. 🕯️🍽️

Last week, on 2 Sep 2026, the “r é n In the Kitchen Charity Night” at The Mira Hong Kong was profoundly meaningful. After five months of rewarding preparation, I am deeply grateful to the r é n and Foodie teams.

Sincerest gratitude to the eight brilliant chefs who tirelessly presented phenomenal dishes—orchestrating this was no easy feat. Thank you to our remarkable auctioneer, Sara @saramao_ , and wonderful MCs, Charmaine Hui @charmainexhui and JC. A special thanks to my dearest friend Adriana Fok @adrianajdarling for patiently guiding an “event beginner” like me. I am thrilled all auction items, including the exquisite Cantonese porcelain Guangcai art, found wonderful homes to raise funds for r é n. 🤍

A moment I will hold close to my heart was packing gift bags with the r é n youths. Having them actively share this night with us was exactly why we hosted this dinner. Another touching highlight was seeing the collaborative artwork by my dear friend Melissa Bui @melissaltbui and Man Hong fetch a beautiful price. I will always cherish the memory of them painting it together.

@circlekay recently asked Kieran and me, “Why organise this dinner?” Ten years ago, I joined F&B believing Hong Kong was a world-class culinary paradise, home to top creative talents. Back then, I wanted to be part of it; today, my greatest hope is for these young people to join us. Despite recent industry challenges, my conviction remains unshaken. F&B is a community offering countless opportunities. I truly believe these youths will learn valuable skills and bring a vibrant energy to Hong Kong’s F&B scene. They are absolutely capable.

While my religion is a guiding light, my profound love for the F&B industry remains my greatest motivation. Seeing the chefs’ masterpieces and our guests’ overwhelming support reaffirmed a core belief: our industry can do so much more for society. On that night, we proved that together.

Finally, a heartfelt thank you to Kieran for leading the Foodie team and delivering such a deeply moving speech to close the evening 🤍

On Sep. 2, Foodie and social enterprise r é n joined hands to host 200 attendees for the r é n In the Kitchen Charity Night at The Mira Hong Kong.

Supporting r é n’s initiatives to provide long-term employment for the Hong Kong’s disadvantaged and underprivileged youths, attendees enjoyed an eight-course wine-paired menu designed by Hong Kong’s top chefs, featuring Olivier Elzer (L’Envol), Rania Hatoum (R.H Fine Dining), Mitsuru Konishi (Plaisance by Mauro Colagreco), David Lai (Neighborhood), Sebastian Lorenzi (Té Bo), and Loïc Portalier (Louise), Alexis Watrin (The Mira Hong Kong), and Kylie Yang (ZS Hospitality).

Complementing the menu was an auction featuring hot-ticket items such as a 5-course full Amber experience lunch menu for two, the former TATE Dining Room mignardines trolley, and Guangcai porcelain pieces.

Proceeds from the night, including those from auction items sold, help to fund the r é n Community Foundation and its Youth Employment Scholarship (YES) Programme to support the wages of disadvantaged youths.

Here are some of the best snaps we took from that night!

Doing good through food.

Last night, @afoodieworld co-hosted @renhk__'s sold-out In The Kitchen Charity Night. An epic star-studded lineup of eight world-class chefs in one kitchen.

At Foodie, we live and breathe Hong Kong's dynamic food scene every day. But last night reminded us of the ultimate power of food: it's something that's universal across all people. Every single seat filled, and every bid placed at our auction, directly helps the r é n Community Foundation provide life-changing vocational training and real culinary career pathways for Hong Kong's disadvantaged and underprivileged youth.

The deepest gratitude to everyone who came forward in support of the event and the cause. What a show the talented culinary teams put on for us - my sincerest appreciation for the time and hard work each of the chefs and their teams put into the event. A tremendous 'thank you' due to @renhk__ , both for a triumphant event, and for the valuable work they do year-round. A team certainly worthy of the evenings success. A particular appreciation for my superpower wife @alexandraleung_ who, driven by the cause, put so much work, energy, and effort into the arrangements for the event.

Without any of you, this couldn't have happened 🫶
