🌻Meet the new Community Advisory Group members: Aileen Angsutorn Lees (@aileenang_ ), Dr Toyeba Mushtaq (@toyebasically), Muminah Koleoso FRSA (@minahsmusings), Reni Adebayo (@reniadeb), Ridhka Kakkar, and Sian Willett (@siany_by_the_sea).

They will join the group along with the current advisory members: Suchi Chatterjee (@dorothysuchitra), Kate Jordan and Jasmine Isa Qureshi (@jazmeenswildheart).

💭The Community Advisory Group exists to give insight into Writing Our Legacy’s community outreach and wider programme of activities, funded through Arts Council England’s National Portfolio (2023–28).

Working closely with WOL’s CEO, core staff and Board of Directors, they will:
🏘️Share insight on issues affecting local communities,
🎨Help us reach and better serve audiences historically underrepresented in arts and culture
💭Advise on programming, engagement, communication and access

The group members applied through an open application process and reflect the communities we aim to serve, including:
🌻Under 25s
🌻Families and parents with young children
🌻Over 65s
🌻Disabled people
🌻LGBTQ+ communities
🌻Refugees
🌻Marginalised and intersectional artists and audiences

Wow we really made something so special hey?

It’s taken me a while to sit down and fully process this but What an honour it has been to create something so beautiful. I think dyke pride is how I always felt pride should feel, political, community focus , protest and radical joy.

When I came to my first dyke pride meeting I was so excited to be a part of it but honestly felt like a little lost puppy with no idea what I can bring to the table. Having never created a community event before I was just happy to be part of the conversation.

Creating the fundraiser is where I really found my feet, me and zo were really putting in our 7 am to 11pm ceo fantasy and having so much fun in the process. I learnt that my creativity could really spill into this, and when I have passion for something I really do have so much to give to it. Thank god for zo tho, honestly never met such an organised queen.

This passion really led into day to day life in the lead up to dyke pride, we wanted to create something special so we put in the late nights and early mornings. I honestly a week later miss having to think about food trucks, or deciding on cute cushion’s or which performers we need to message.

The team we had alongside us was truly special, we got people on board who really were experts in their specific are and without them it could not have happened. I learnt something new every single day, I spoke in front of 3k people, we executed our vision so perfectly and so much joy came from it.

This event was everything I could have imagined and more, we literally made history and it was a true community effort , from our team to our volunteers, to allies and companions from the wider community such as @brightonbearweekend , @transpridebrighton , and @brightongmc .

I feel so excited to create something even bigger next year, and to invite you to some more amazing fundraisers. ❤️‍🔥
