Sugar Horse being the total dudes they are have not only asked me to DJ for tomorrow’s rager at Exchange but generously offered Totality a space on the merch table.

I’m cycling down so I’ll bring a handful of vinyl, CD and tapes from No Violet, WONT, Sophrosyne, Jake Healy, Olanza, Rank and Repo Man.

Strong chance I’ll also be shouting about the upcoming Ritual Error album ‘Terminal With Benefits’ that Totality is releasing in September. If you wanna reserve a copy in person hit me up.

In the autumn of 2020 Ant hit me up and asked if I’d be interested in stepping in on guitar for Repo Man, I of course said yeah but under the condition that we’d work on writing a new album out of respect to Liam who had to take a break due to tinnitus, I didn’t want to mangle his guitar parts from previous albums (second time asked to join a band I was in love with ;-) ).

Dance Oblique was a constant, Si, Jak, Ant and I hammered away at the tracks then the attitude and maximalism of Me Pop Now was harnessed by Wayne when we recorded with him in the summer of ’22 at Giant Wafer. Liam diving in head first on the final day of tracking doing overdubs with deft execution.

After listening to what was recorded at Giant Wafer the idea of interludes was suggested to make it more “cohesive”. We made that happen on an unhinged weekend at mine. It worked a treat using the interludes and you can hear this version on the CD and double vinyl version of the album released on Totality in July 2023. We were super grateful to have Cruel Nature release Me Pop Now on cassette as well, appreciate the trust there!

Super proud of this work and the effort everyone put in making Me Pop Now the most intense Repo album to date.

The first Grand Times album ‘I Guess I Just Wasn’t Made For These Grand Times’ was put out on Noah Radley’s Elastic Furniture label a couple years back while the second, ‘Grand Times Fly’ we released on Totality last May. Both are available on cassette on Bandcamp and at some stores.

Grand Times is Jake Healy’s sample driven fragmented ecstasy project that pulls you into mirage memories of happier days. When he sent me Grand Times Fly I first listened walking along with our new born strapped to my chest on one of the less used paths near my house surrounded by the bare winter trees. The music was sublime, you could just about imagine everything being green and bright again.

swelt - Bones

The debut @sweltband album is out today! We recorded it on the north coast of Scotland, as far up as you can go before hitting water, in a studio overlooking the North Sea. Massive thanks to @jamie_greenmount_lamigobay for doing such an awesome job of recording and mixing, and to @bureaudefatigue for the beautiful artwork and LP design.

It’s been 20 years since I started playing in bands and it’s funny how much it’s shaped my life. I’m not sure I would have a career as an editor if it wasn’t for the old Talons tour videos I used to cut. I love being a part of making records because every album becomes a snapshot of life in the years spent making them.

It’s streaming everywhere, and we’ve pressed a limited run of 12” vinyl. You can pick one up at swelt.bandcamp.com

Bones is out now! We’re very proud to call this our debut album. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we did making it.

This album came together over the last couple of years. We wanted it to feel like a distilled, direct expression of what we sound like as a band, and we’re really pleased to finally have it out there.

Huge thanks to Jamie Lockhart (@jamie_greenmount_lamigobay), who completely got what we were going for and facilitated the perfect environment to capture the album up in Skerray on the north coast of Scotland.

Recorded and mixed by Jamie Lockhart at Lamigo Bay Studio
Mastered by Hippocratic Mastering
Additional lyrics and vocals on Dust and Bones by @malisiloko
Artwork by @bureaudefatigue
