Small journalism dump with some exciting news:

Catch me reporting for Knoxville’s @wbirchannel10 🍊

What started as a middle school extracurricular turned into my passion, and I’m so grateful to be pursuing broadcast journalism in such an incredible city and newsroom. I’m excited to learn, grow and tell the stories that matter in East Tennessee.

I may be wearing a new shade of orange, but I’ll always be a Texas Ex! 🧡

Four months earlier, I was sending my application to be part of the Broadcast Capstone class at UT Austin.

Four months earlier, I was asking to join TSTV News, the university’s news organisation.

And four months earlier, the dream began. I found a new passion while being surrounding by an amazing reporting team.

I want to personally thank our professor, Dr Kate, for supporting my application while being on exchange. Thank you for making every step of the process happening, thank you for your precious advice, your determination and passion.

@joseph.sween03y , thank you for believing in me and my work, and making me feel like a part of the family since day 1. I couldn’t have dreamed of a better producer.

Overall, thank you to the whole team, I met extraordinary people and I am sure these meetings are for a lifetime.

Signing off, I am Mareva Valiere.
Now go out, and change your world 🌍

In other news… I am so excited to announce that after an amazing year of interning @kxan_news, I am off to Charleston, SC to do what I love most and report for @live5news 🎥🥳

If you know me, you know how badly I’ve wanted this and the importance that journalism holds in my life. There aren’t enough ways to say thank you to all the mentors, family, and friends who helped me get here. I can’t wait to get started sharing the stories of the CHS community at the Lowcountry’s news leader. Coming live to a TV near you (or your Live 5 App) soon🩷😎🌊

Say hello to Mahlah Freeman, a journalism major from Houston! She knew she wanted to attend a highly-ranked journalism program where excellent professors would train her. But what sealed the deal for her was a tour with Texas First, where she met the deans, ultimately leading her to choose @texasmoody!

With a focus on law school but not embarking on the typical pre-law major path, she decided on journalism because she wanted something that she would enjoy, that would build her writing skills, and that would allow her to connect with her community. Post-grad, she plans on attending law school and is most interested in broadcast journalism as she loves working with live news!

She is part of @thedragaudio, the Terry Student Scholar Association, the Deaf Culture Alliance and Koinonia. Along with these orgs keeping her busy, she also serves as a Dean’s Ambassador and an Resident Assistant at Jester!

Reporting Television and Broadcast Capstone are two of her favorite classes as they teach you to think on your feet! She notes that you never know what can go right or wrong in live shows, so you must be prepared for anything. For her, it’s fun to join a team that puts a live show together!

Fun Fact: She has a twin brother!

This semester, she is looking forward to her last course registration, remarking that it is a decisive moment for her as she gets ready to graduate but also bittersweet. When stressed from school, her advice to students is to close the laptop and take a break, as no one should make you feel like there is something wrong with taking a breather. She said, “Get off campus, go for a walk, explore Austin, or go to Terry Blacks and get some brisket!”

The floor of her room is her favorite study spot! Here, she can play music and think out loud while being in the comfort of her own place, but she is on a hard floor, so she’s awake and alert while doing her work.

Follow Mahlah @mahlahfreeman on Instagram and check out how she spends a day in her life!
