Meet Paulina Simons (@paulinermonster), the first rider in our series Riders and Rigs of the Mountaineer Monster!

Paulina will be riding the 275-mile route on her custom steel bike from @bigblockbikes. “It’s my daily driver gravel rig - I’m hoping to set the women’s FKT on it! Ideally I snag the overall FKT, but we’ll see who all shows up :)”

“I ride for a team called @rescue_racing based out of Raleigh/Durham, NC! Our goal is to raise awareness for and support our local rescues and shelters - we really love dogs (and cats)!”

Good luck, Paulina! You’re gonna smash it.

My friend @emma_m_thomas messaged me this after seeing the finished mural and believe me, this was an exercise in “trust the process” for everyone, including me lol. It is hard making art in public, but it’s worth it.

UPDATE (10/2): Sunday’s (10/04) 50 for 50 ride is canceled due to the forecasted rain and storms.

Let’s keep celebrating the 50th anniversary of our greenways!

The first week of October, the City of Raleigh, alongside Oaks and Spokes and several other organizations and community groups, will be hosting a series of events to acknowledge and celebrate our greenways’ birthday! See all events on the last slide.

Outside of the events featured above, we also want to invite you to the @cityofraleighmuseum’s special greenway exhibit, “A Park With a City In It,” on Thursday, October 8th, from 5–7 PM. There will be a discussion panel featuring our own Executive Director, Jared Harber.

We hope to see you out there! Branding concept and artwork made by a human, and that human is @bryancouchman

Looking for a group to ride with in Durham?

Our updated community ride calendar pulls together the regular rides happening around town, from weeknight social rides out of local breweries and bike shops to Saturday chapter rides with Black Girls Do Bike Raleigh-Durham and monthly Critical Mass.

Most of these rides are organized by other groups, so check each ride's social media before heading out. Some are seasonal, and some cancel for weather. Look up the distance and pace ahead of time so you know what to expect.

Save this post so you have it handy, and find the full calendar at bikedurham.org/events.

Paid rent on the podium this season and had a ton of fun doing it 🐕 Excited to start working with @doherty_endurance to become a real bad 30-something year old.

Maybe the biggest Wednesday ride yet? Close to 50 folks came out last night for an awesome, if incredibly humid ride!

Shout-out to the @thedailydurham for rehydrating us with plenty of 'champagne' afterwards
