RIP @2pac - 30 years… 🙏🏾

“In the event of my Demise when my heart can beat no more,
I hope I die for a principle or a belief that I had lived 4.

I will die before my time
Because I feel the shadow’s depth,
so much I wanted 2 accomplish
Before I reached my death.

I have come 2 grips with the possibility and wiped the last tear from my eyes,
I loved all who were positive
In the event of my Demise!”

Back in August of 2021, I had the honor of capturing hip-hop legend Rob Base performing his global classic “It Takes Two” — a song that helped define an era and still brings energy to every room the moment it comes on.

Today, I was saddened to hear of his passing.

As a photographer, there are moments you capture that become more than just images…they become memories tied to culture, music, and history. I’m grateful I had the opportunity to witness and document a true icon doing what he loved most.

Rest in peace, Rob Base. Thank you for the music, the energy, and the memories that will live on forever.

Respect Magazine | Issue 1

Atlanta, April 29, 2005 | @killermike

“We shot at his grandmother’s house, in the backyard. I really wanted to go to his foundation to tell his story. It was actually Big Gipp from Goodie Mob’s car: the doors went up like Lamborghini doors. I wanted to do something that felt less like I’m the man’ and something that really felt authentic for Atlanta, which is flip-flops and socks in the backyard, preparing for that evening, putting the work in to have the freshest car, to maintain when you do dress up and you are super-super clean-the work that goes into it.”

I know @gippgoodie got some good Deville stories I wanna hear the tales!

“I rolled over there while he was getting his dreads done. He was rolling some blunts, and I just jumped right in. I did this whole shoot with him with all these different outfits, and I got some really cool photos. But to me, that’s the real guy right there.” - Danny Clinch | 1998

Last night we celebrated 100 years of Black History Month, honoring the stories, contributions, and leadership of our Black community.

Our new photo installation, Brooklyn’s Finest: Legends, is a tribute to Brooklyn’s Hip-Hop legends and the photographers who captured iconic moments. It was especially meaningful to honor two of Brooklyn’s powerhouses: Jamel Shabazz @jamelshabazz and Fab 5 Freddy @fab5freddy.

Brooklyn’s Finest: Legends is now on view at Brooklyn Borough Hall through February 28, Mondays-Fridays, 9:00am - 4:30pm. Special thank you to @graphichouse @respectthemag and @datwon for making this all possible.
