Huge thanks to Venetia Initiatives for the invitation to this fantastic exhibition in New York from March 3 to April 16 2022.

The curatorial project "Quieter than Silence", curated by Venetia Kapernekas, focuses on the theories of French philosopher, author, and journalist Albert Camus.

The exhibited project, "Vingt Deux et pas mille" deals with the history of the Burgundian Millefleur tapestries. In the 15th century, tapestries were a precious medium to represent the power of a dynasty. They reflected the power and wealth of the owner and were an indispensable furnishing in every leading ruling house. In particular, the Burgundian House of Valois was aware of the advantages and importance of the textile medium. Duke Phillip the Good owned over 100 tapestry sets by himself. … more information on my website

As a kid you grow up being told about your heritage, and about family stories and things. And from stems just one of the many things that contributes to your identity (whatever that means to you).

For me I grew up knowing that I was basically an “ethnic fruit salad”. Mexican. Iranian. Nicaraguan. European. Lebanese (a bunch huh?). But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve started to wanna discover these parts for myself. I read. I watch. I explore. And through art I’be found a way to outwardly express my connection with these diverse cultures and families.

You might have been wondering what this friggin symbol is by now. Well, it’s ’عشق‘. (Pronounced esh-esgh. Tricky) This is the Persian word for ‘love’. I’ve always admired the cryptic beauty of Farsi and decided to go all in. Simple...but special.

I’m sucking so much air right now, I can feel it. Anyways, definitely plan to keep this ‘thing’ going, so stay tuned, and Happy late Nowruz (Persian New Year ya’ll)!🌸🌱🇮🇷

These scattered breaks of mine are just part of the creative process now, I feel.

Anyway, thought I’d share part of a new project I’m working on. This is a princely, Persian sketch, inspired by a beautiful piece from the Islamic Art wing of the @metmuseum .

A quirk of mine is to name everything (no reason why). And the first name to pop in my head for this new beauty, surprisingly ready, was the name Eshrat (the name of my great-grandmother). Nothing could be more perfect🙏🏻

So thanks to my Nonna @restlessnomad7 , I’m excited to begin exploring the visual styles and graces of my Iranian-mixed heritage through my art. Enjoy, and stay tuned, pretty please🖖🏻
