I’ve never shown my students my ephemera artwork until recently! I talked to them about how I would go to estate sales and look through old papers to bring history and old photos back to life, to give memories and letters a second chance. Of course @retakeremake had all kinds of local ephemera, from crochet patterns to letters. The kids loved looking through it all and seeing how advertising and art styles have changed. And in the end we glued some hand drawn pumpkins on top to make it festive! 🎃

In honor of #ClimateWeek, we’re spotlighting a #ClimateWin happening close to home. Across the #HudsonValley, creative reuse shops are keeping usable crafting supplies out of landfills.

This summer, @retakeremake in #PeekskillNY hit a huge milestone: 200,000 pounds — that's 100 tons! — of art supplies diverted from landfills since opening.

They're part of a growing movement. Hubs like @secondwavesupplies in #BeaconNY and @frugalfabrics_ulster in #KingstonNY collect unused craft supplies (among other items!) and give them a second life, keeping creativity affordable for makers in their communities.

And Hudson Valley-ites are noticing: @retakeremake recently took home the title of @westchestermagazine’s 2026 Best Art Supply Store. 🥇

Tinkering with my repurposed, cardboard/needlepoint ornament display. Shoutout to @retakeremake for $25 worth of wool and acrylic yarn to give the display the texture and icy, neutral color scheme it needed. What is shown in the picture is what is left over. I got quite a bit for my twenty five dollars. Do yourself a favor crafter/maker/artist/teacher/parent. Go to the Hat Factory in Peekskill now. Check the Google for hours first tho...

Hoping to set up the canopy and tables next week to document what @gollyswellfella will look like for the @stormville_airport_fleamarkets on September 5th and 6th. Stay tuned...

Maureen Winzig is our highlight of the day!

Maureen is an incredible artist and a true staple of the Peekskill arts community. A former Peekskill Arts Alliance president, she brings a wealth of experience, heart, and mastery to everything she makes, from watercolor dreamscapes and oil portraits to mixed media and one-of-a-kind jewelry. Her work has been shown across the Hudson Valley and in New York City, and her studio remains one of the bright spots of downtown Peekskill.

We’re honored to have her with us.
