In the current landscape of sneakers on social media, we see early looks, crazy resell prices, and hyped collaborations. This is a break from that mold. This pair is old, not very hyped, and doesn’t resell for a bunch. But it is a special pair to me.

I grew up in Idaho, and when you think of Idaho, you think of potatoes, not sneakers. The only times I was able to see anything sneaker related was at my small local Foot Locker (where there really wasn’t anything), or day dreaming and looking through Eastbay magazines. I very rarely saw anyone were anything note worthy.

The times I would see people wearing shoes I was interested in is when I would go watch local high school basketball. When I was in middle school, I went to a game and saw a player on the opposing team wearing some amazing Jordans. I had no idea at the time what they were, but I couldn’t take my eyes off them, and knew I wanted a pair.

Fast forward to my first year of teaching, when I started getting back into sneakers, I was looking online and saw a pair of 2013 Laney Jordan 5s. I instantly recognized them and was brought back to that moment as a kid, and realized those were the shoes I saw that player wearing all those years ago (His pair was the 2000 release). I was able to get them, and my childhood dream was fulfilled.

Reconnecting emotionally with those nostalgic childhood memories, keeps me hooked on sneakers, and it’s what makes this pair special to me.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. Buy what you like, wear what you like, and hype doesn’t matter.
