Hardships of being an immigrant: Though our family shared in a lot of fun together, we also had a number of very difficult times. In 1974, Reva had just turned one. Mom and dad bought their first house in Beltsville, MD. They got a call that my mom’s father had died. Mom and dad could not afford for her to go to India. 46 years later, she still regrets not being able to be there.

Mom was not able to return for the death of either of her parents. This makes her sad to this day.

In the late 70’s dad’s sister was murdered by her husband. This devastated the family. He strangled her to death for her jewelry and money. When she separated from her husband, she had come to visit our family in the United States. The family persuaded her to try again, after her husband indicated interest in trying again. This was a mistake that our family will never forget.

Missing tragic times and happy times in India makes the distance so difficult. It makes the heart yearn to be with family back home and when you can’t be there you feel a sense of loneliness that is deep and profound.

After brunch at cute neighborhood restaurant, a few friends huddled at home over bubbly and art to celebrate my 5 years in DC. The unleashed creativity was intensely inspiring. See Facebook for more elaborate album shortly. Super grateful for all of you in my life. #hugs #dcliving #zaddyskitchen #artsyfartsy #bff
