It’s not always about what you were born into. Sometimes legacy finds you because of what you were born to carry.

This conversation reminded me that purpose can put your name in rooms lineage never introduced you to.

One of the most powerful parts of this conversation was the reminder that legacy isn’t built by staying stuck in one season forever. Sometimes God calls you to move, shift, grow, and answer new assignments. Too many people stay loyal to old versions of themselves while missing the mercy attached to what’s next. This conversation challenged me deeply. Full episode available now. Link in bio.

Just because you started there doesn’t mean you have to end there.

Some conversations stay with you long after the cameras stop rolling. Sitting with Markell Hutchins we talked legacy, lineage, influence, pressure, purpose, and how where you begin in life doesn’t have to determine where you finish. This wasn’t surface-level conversation. It was wisdom, history, pain, perspective, and growth all in one room.

The first time I met Reverend Jesse Jackson, Sr., I was a senior in high school in Stone Mountain, Georgia. He came to speak to our entire student body, and I had the incredible honor of introducing him. As a young student, standing at that podium and welcoming a living legend, I was in disbelief. His words inspired us all and reminded us of the power of service, courage, and unwavering faith in justice and HOPE!

Years later, during his 78th birthday week, he signed my yearbook where there’s a photo of us with my longtime friend, Reverend Markel Hutchins — a moment that continues to inspire us both.

Reverend Jesse Jackson, Sr. has dedicated his life to advocating for equality, dignity, and opportunity for all. I remain deeply honored to have met him. Thank you, Rev. Jackson, for your legacy, your courage, and your enduring inspiration.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for tonight’s @faithandblue community resource fair at the Jacob Building!

Tonight’s event was a tremendous success only made possible by the Alliance for Community Transformation and countless city partners, organizations and service providers.

We were especially excited to be joined tonight by Rev. Markel Hutchins, the founder of the National Faith & Blue initiative. We appreciate Rev. Hutchins for his attendance and support of our event.

Public safety relies on strong partnerships, collaboration, and mutual understanding and respect. Events like these are foundational to building bridges and a thriving community. We are blessed and humbled to serve the people who call Knoxville home!

Had a marvelous time at the PLECET (Professionalizing Law Enforcement Community Engagement Training) Conference in Chicago. Truly enjoyed meeting new friends. Also had a great time attending the informative breakout seminars. Could not visit Chicago and not enjoy the various foods it has to offer, Yumm! Also, was truly Honored to meet Mrs. Xerona Clayton who was Dr. Martin Luther King’s assistant. She’s the only living person from Dr. King’s inner circle. Also, attended the amazing City of Chicago Blues Festival! They had a BB King Tribute Band. Also, had a very meaningful visit to the The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center seeing the Art pieces, historical artifacts, etc., I even back a Patron of the Museum now and going forward. I would like to send a BIG Thank You to Rev. Markel Hutchins, Kevin Martinez, Micki Pearce and all the Staff of Moving Forward for a fabulous conference.
