Irish Film Institute
in association with Dublin City Council & Musictown present

Sunday October 4th, 1.30pm
SCREENING: PHILIP LYNOTT: SONGS FOR WHILE I’M AWAY

FOLLOWED BY LIVE INTERVIEW WITH DIRECTOR EMER REYNOLDS & KILLIAN SUNDERMAN

Tickets: https://ifi.ie/films/phil-lynott-songs -for-while-im-away

An exclusive screening of Emer Reynolds’ moving documentary followed by a live interview with the director conducted by podcaster, comedian and Thin Lizzy nut Killian Sunderman.

Telling the story of a black, working-class boy who comes of age in 1960s Dublin, this feature documentary from maestra Emer Reynolds (The Farthest) paints a detailed portrait of one of Ireland’s greatest rock legends. The film explores the man and his music through his own words and through interviews with an array of admirers, friends and family, who speak about the public and private Lynott with warmth, authority and great dollops of humour. Reynolds chooses to focus meticulously on the creation of a powerful and varied body of work rather than dwell on the drink and drug dependency that blighted Lynott’s latter years before his death at 36.

⭐TESTIMONY nominated for BEST ORIGINAL FILM SCORE at #THEIVORNOVELLOAWARDS ⭐

Tom Hodge's original score for Testimony has been nominated for Best Original Film Score at the 71st Ivor Novello Awards - the only documentary nominated in the category.

Directed by Aoife Kelleher and produced by Rachel Lysaght and Farah Abushwesha, Testimony follows the fight for justice by survivors of Ireland’s Magdalene Laundries and Mother and Baby Homes. Supported by Justice for Magdalenes (JFM), the film exposes decades of institutional abuse, including forced labour, family separation, and systemic complicity between church and state. Their journey, from grassroots activism to delivering testimony at the United Nations, highlights both the resilience of survivors and the ongoing struggle for accountability.

Composer Tom Hodge; “I’m incredibly honoured that Testimony has been recognised by The Ivors Academy. From the outset, the score was about balancing the film’s urgent pursuit of justice with the deeply personal testimonies of survivors of the Magdalene Laundries. I was fortunate to collaborate closely with Aoife Kelleher from an early stage, which allowed us to shape a musical language that reflects both the historical weight and emotional depth of the story. Ultimately, the score is about holding space - bearing witness rather than overstating. I’m very proud to see the film recognised in this way, especially as the only documentary nominated."

Director Aoife Kelleher; “I am so delighted that Tom Hodge’s beautiful score for Testimony has been honoured by The Ivors Academy. It was a joy to collaborate with Tom and the wonderful team of musicians who played on his score. Their work has captured the resilience and the solidarity, as well as the hurt and betrayal that permeate the stories in Testimony, and has elevated the film beyond measure. That the work has been acknowledged in this way is a great source of joy and pride."

Cora Venus Lunny and I contributed our version of Seán Ó Riada’s ‘Mná na hÉireann’ to the closing credits of this incredibly powerful film by @aekelleher about Justice for Magdalenes and the survivors of the Mother and Baby Homes. Huge respect to Aoife and all the team who made it, as well as all of the brilliant contributors who told their stories so bravely. Here is a short clip of our track accompanying the beautiful visuals from the film and the many rave reviews and awards the film has been receiving.

The film was scored beautifully by @tomhodgetom and the soundtrack also features the incredible @lankumdublin and @thegloamingofficial

Testimony is a film about the relentless fight for justice by the survivors of the Magdalene Laundries in Ireland and beyond. A deep and profound privilege to play a small part in helping to give voice to these moving personal stories. I cried every day on set. In cinemas from Nov 21st. ♥️
