I was stoked to receive this trophy from Rob and Monica at RMS for a Hollywood Professional Association Award for “Porcelain War” on Friday. It was truly an honour to work on this film at RMS and I will always be grateful to them for having me on their team to contribute to this incredible film.

Porcelain War tells the story of Slava, Anya, their friend Andrey and his family, and their dog Frodo. They had to flee Crimea in 2014 when Putin invaded and forced them out. Slava knew that Russia would not stop at Crimea and so prepared himself to defend his homeland. The film explores how these incredible people not only defend their country from aggressors, but how they defend their humanity through art.

I could never imagine having to be so brave. Whether it be facing a violent foreign enemy intent on destruction or driving my family thousands of miles through mountain passes to safety, and then having to let them go with barely a goodbye.

It is very important the world supports those who stand up to despots.

Thank you to Slava, Anya, Andrey, Brendan, Aniela, Paula, Camilla, Luke and all the film makers for making this incredibly important documentary.

What an incredible weekend.
The ASSG Awards this year were a wonderful reminder of all the amazing people and teams I’ve had the great fortune of working with.
Thank you to the ASSG Awards committee for all their hard work putting the Awards together, and to everyone who judged and voted in all the categories. And congratulations to all the nominees, you’re all deserving and should be very proud of your work.
I will always be grateful to Rob and Monica at RMS for having me on their team for Porcelain War. I will likely never work on a more important film. Everyone on the crew did an awesome job. Brendan Bellomo is one of the smartest and hardest-working humans I’ve ever met, and it was a dream to collaborate with him and Aniela Sidorska as well as Camilla and Luke Mazzaferro. Most of all, thanks to Slava, Anya, Andrey and his daughters, and the Saigon unit for bravely sharing their stories of defending their homeland and protecting their humanity.
Blue Eye Samurai was a dream gig. To work for legends like Myron Nettinga and Paulette Lifton on our third show together, and with my old friends Jared Dwyer and Andrew Miller, couldn’t have been more fulfilling. Michael Green, Amber Noizumi, and Jane Wu crafted a masterpiece of storytelling and animation, and it was a thrill to have been a small part of that realization.
Boy Swallows Universe was a lot of hard work, and I hope we did justice to the incredible crafts that came before us. Everything from writing to production design and performances set the bar very high. I can’t thank the crew enough, for whom “good enough” wasn’t an option. Nigel, Dani, Cam, Daniel, Blair - you are the best and mean the world to me. And to Andrew Mason and Livia Hanich for sharing our ambition for the quality of sound we wanted to achieve. Thank you to Trent Dalton for sharing his deeply personal story with us all. It is always a pleasure to work at Spectrum Films, where craft and filmmaking come first. Angus and Cat have given me a lot of support and shown a lot of faith in me and I’ll always be grateful for that. I have to mention Evie Read who is one of the very best assistant editors I have ever worked with.

Сьогодні повернулись зі східної експедиції. Але відчуваю, що не повернулись.

Ти намагаєшся зібрати всі спогади у яскравий вітраж, а за ним лише випалений безкраїй степ. Степ, за яким я так сильно сумувала весь цей час. Народжені з вітром у волоссі відчують його пекучий дотик на шкірі та присмак пилу в роті. Пилу, що назавжди закарбує відбиток твоїх підошв. Цей звʼязок, він назавжди комплементарними парами в твоїй ДНК.
Але час їхати далі, залишати нові відбитки, збирати нові вітражі.

На першому фото екватор наших смислових мандрів Україною.
Команда «Інструкції» в Дніпрі разом із Андрієм Палашем, директором Культурного центру DCCC, в шикарному інтерʼєрі якого й зроблене це чудове фото.

На другому фото крайній знімальний день проєкту. Команда «Інструкції» в Києві з Віталієм Портніковим. Не знаю, чи то ми такі щасливі після змістової бесіди із паном Віталієм, чи то тому, що закінчили зйомки проєкту.

Але ви можете самі оцінити, які смисли ми відшукали з цими чарівними панами у новому випуску «Буття», яким ми перевалили за екватор сезону.

I just saw this film again with my daughter and it moved me as much as ever. See it when you get the chance. Beautiful, moving and important work.
