Voices of Practice is a virtual, monthly series that gives prospective students at all stages of the application process an opportunity to connect with our community.

Sessions include a general RFU and resources overview and an opportunity for prospective students to learn more about your programs, experiences, and our RFU community through a Q&A.

This series serves as an opportunity to share your voice (panelists) with prospective students, as they gather information to make an informed decision about RFU and navigate the graduate school process.

To volunteer, simply scan the QR code or visit the link in our bio—we’d love to have you join us!

On August 3, 2026, the Pre-Matriculation Program (PMP) celebrated its second annual Pinning Ceremony.

The event recognized the dedication and achievements of alumni and peer mentors, who were presented with pins symbolizing their commitment to excellence, service, and teamwork.

As they continue their journey toward becoming healthcare leaders, these individuals exemplify the values and spirit of the PMP community.

After 38 years of service, we would like to congratulate Tamera Welbon, Pre-Professional Health Sciences Department Coordinator, on her retirement from Rosalind Franklin University. Tammy’s last day will be Friday, July 31, 2026.

Tammy joined RFU in the Spring of 1988, working in the old "Computer Center" where she helped the staff work on computers. In 1992, Dr. Timothy Hansen hired her as the Coordinator for Ancillary Programs, and the rest, as they say, is history! That role transitioned throughout the past 33 years (three different departments and four different Chairs!), but Tammy's primary focus has always been supporting what is now called the Biomedical Sciences (BMS) and Pre-Matriculation Programs.

It’s impossible to count how many students Tammy has inspired over the last 30 years! She has been the ultimate champion for our students and the PHS department, bringing endless encouragement, unwavering support, and a lot of laughter to everyone around her. While her presence will be incredibly missed, we are so excited to celebrate her incredible career as she steps into a well-deserved retirement!

Tammy already loves living in the woods of central Wisconsin, and she is jumping right into retirement. She and her husband Tom, along with their dog Buddy, are looking forward to lots of camping trips, spending plenty of time fishing on their boat, and, of course, hitting the road on their motorcycles!

Please join us in celebrating Tammy’s incredible career and wishing her the very best in retirement!

Retirement Celebration: Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm at the Scholl Gallery.

Last weekend, the Dean's office sponsored a CHP Mixer that the class presidents organized, bringing together students from all of our CHP programs.

Students enjoyed laser tag, whirly ball, ping pong, and some really crazy and
competitive giant Jenga games!

It was a great break from studying and a time to connect with students from other programs.

The Interprofessional Continuing Competency (ICC) team recently hosted a community Vaccinations and Health Screenings event at Drip and Culture Coffee in Waukegan, held on the second floor of the space known as Gathr Creative Studios. The event connected local community members with important preventive care services in a welcoming neighborhood setting.

The initiative was supported by a dedicated team, including Dr. Yovanna Pomarico, Program Director of the Pre-Matriculation Program, who also coordinated logistics and patient navigation; Dr. Khyati Patel, serving as the immunizing pharmacist; Dr. Rilina Ghosh, ICC Pediatrics faculty, who assisted with pediatric immunizations and event oversight; and Dr. Melissa Chen, who provided additional event oversight and support.

Great work to the ICC partners for helping strengthen community health—one visit at a time! 👏
