“Curiosity killed the cat”?? 🤔

At its core, what we’re really saying is that a life spent chasing unknowns, thrills and information that’s not ours to know can lead to a spiralling, self-destructive end.

I understand the sentiment. But can I raise you one better?

I think curiosity is the spice of life. The paprika to the otherwise dull and uninspiring slog life dishes out on the daily.

What if life’s unfamiliar rollercoasters are resuscitators of sorts?

They remind us to feel again. Not to exist in the beige. To inject colour. To dispel the grey clouds with a reckless crayon-type resistance.

I think we lose a lot when we trade curiosity for comfort.

I’ve come to believe that the comfort zone is where dreams go to die. Because nothing grows in comfort. Rather, it’s pressure that breeds diamonds. Comfort merely adds the polish, but it never produces the jewel itself. If you want the gem, you’ll have to go on that adventure. Excavate your courage. Become an archaeologist of your own destiny.

Shake the dust off your feet from what feels familiar, and dare to try. Even if you fail horribly.

While I agree that unbounded curiosity can lead to danger, I think the unknown can be good for us. Not danger in the reckless sense. I mean the danger of unfamiliarity.

The discomfort of walking a path you cannot fully explain yet.

Because when there’s no blueprint for the path you’re treading, you have no choice but to rely on the One with the master plan.

Confronting the unknown reminds us that we are human in a way our comfort zones can never emulate.

I’m not advocating for us to put ourselves in harm’s way just for the fun of it. What I’m saying is that perhaps we should follow our curiosity every once in a while, especially when it’s leading us to an unknown path that may be better aligned than the tried-and-tested method.

What if comfort, rather than curiosity, killed the cat?
