When lifelong friends become Friends with a capital F during a long, relaxing weekend. Besties Kim and Rici share a birthday and have celebrated together since they were kids. What a joy then to be asked to join them and Rici’s husband Frank at Rici’s family A.K.Ranch in the upcountry northeast corner of Hawai’i Island. The ranch compound consists of a cluster of charming red and white #paniolostyle cottages and outbuildings that were given a nucleus when the family hired architect @rhoadylee to design a substantial party barn. Built around a double lava rock fireplace with an Ipe wood deck that connects the old main house, the barn serves as a warm gathering place for friends and extended family in the frequently wet, cool weather. #hawaiianstyle #paniolo #maukaliving

On this snowy New England day... thinking about our dear friends at the Hawai’i Wildlife Center on the Big Island... What a treat it was to design that critical wildlife rehabilitation facility. Flip to see some of their patients! And please join us (over 3000 hours during design and construction) in supporting their important ongoing efforts to rescue and rehabilitate the endangered species of the Hawaiian islands. ❤️ . . . . . . . #modern #contemporary #design #detailsmatter #designlikeyougiveadamn #architecture #modernhouse #modernhome #moderndesign #ruhlstudio #ruhlstudioarchitects #modernarchitecture #newenglandhome #saveourplanet #hawaii #probono
