i turned 20 yesterday.

september is national suicide prevention month. i turned 20 yesterday. life has continued to be really hard and there have been multiple seasons i didn’t want to fight through. there have been seasons where ive given everything ive got to the Lord, and there have been seasons where i couldn’t utter a word to Him. but, nonetheless, i turned 20 yesterday.

i wish i could say it gets easier forever, but that’s not the case. but there is something that does happen, if you give it a chance. love grows. people fight for you. joy gets a little brighter. solitude feels a little nicer. the voices go quite sometimes. and along the way you learn that you’re not alone, even when you want to be. you learn that maybe it’s ok to give the next morning a try. you learn that maybe you can send that text or make that call. you learn that your friends are never really as mad as you think they are. you learn that you’re not a burden, even when your mind tries telling you otherwise. a root inside grows, and it reminds you during those really hard nights, that there’s still a reason to try. as many times as you want to give in, there’s a reason to try. as much as you wish there wasn’t sometimes, there’s a reason to try.

that’s why i turned 20 yesterday. praise the Lord.
