God’s timing is always better than our own. Thank you Jesus.

‭‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭2‬-‭4‬ ‭NLT‬‬
“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.”

I can remember the first week that this church opened five years ago. It was one of the most stressful weeks of my life, largely because I had to figure out how to mimic Vista programming on MA3. Keep in mind, this was in the 1.5 days when phasers would break when you shutdown the software, and recipes weren’t in the limelight as they are now.
At the same time, though, it was one of the most God-evident moments of my life because even though I was in the motions, I didn’t know until after that first Sunday that the God who called me would see me through.
And He did.
Even with the chaos that followed. Even with situations that had me move from Springfield to Kansas City, God proved He was on the throne time and time again.
There’s a reason why East Kansas City is my home church after all this time. And there’s a reason why I make a conscious effort to be here every Sunday.
Because it was this church where I discovered my worth again. Where I rediscovered why the church is the hope of the world. Where, even with all of my limitations, this church continually welcomes me again with open arms. And I’m not talking about the building.
I’m talking about the people I have the honor to work with every week.
Everything that I do for the church is an extension of what goes on here at East Kansas City. The love that comes from here, the community, and the purpose of this church has poured into me faster than I can pour out.
That’s why I know God’s just getting started.
I really believe I am the person I am today because of how God is displayed through this church’s grace, their trust, and the space they give me to explore what God might do. Even if the outcome is failure. Even if it means more. Or even if the reason is just to stay faithful to the church.

Thank you @life.churcheastkansascity for five years of faithfulness and serving the Kansas City area. Thank you, @joeldriskell, for all that you’ve done for the kingdom and all that you’re continuing to do to make God known. The battles that were won here are all for the glory of God. I’m convinced of that because of this place. And I’m convinced the work is not done because God is not done in me yet.

And the third gig for the weekend is…well, actually…this isn’t a gig. Neither were the other two in my mind.
Yes, I made a paycheck out of those places, including here at the church, but it wasn’t a result of a business decision. It’s because of the community here at Life.Church where I not only thrive in my calling, but where God sustains me through the highs and lows. And I am fortunate to be friends with Spirit-led leaders and influencers who also want to see me use my gifts beyond the four walls of the church.
In Matthew 16, Jesus said that “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”(24-25) Meaning that the purpose of our walk with Christ is to constantly deny ourselves and be focused on the one who saves. That’s not to say that we don’t have a choice in what we do. What does Paul say in 1 Corinthians 10:31? “Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” So we get to choose what we do in our lives so long as it leads people to Christ. But when God calls you in a direction, it’s no longer a personal gain. It’s a victory in Christ.
It’s never my intention to build a business or to lift my own name. While I am experimenting with what freelancing can be like (which you should follow @_GTB_LX if you haven’t already), my reason for programming lights is to lift up the name of Jesus. To use what God has given me to see Him move in ways I can never do on my own.
And the last few days are a testament to that! To work alongside friends, and to be introduced to some new ones along the way, will always be a fun experience and a reminder of how I can’t do it on my own. And it’s all to help others find Jesus through what He called me to do, programming lights. Thank you God for choosing me!
