Suffering, when chosen, becomes something sacred. It is a proving ground; it is a refining fire.

Don’t ask to be spared from suffering. Ask for the strength to endure it with dignity.

That’s what we’re practicing every time we show up: to suffer well, with awareness. We choose suffering not because we are victims, but because we’re becoming something more.

Pain teaches what comfort never will. It breaks our false selves and forges our real ones. It reveals who we are and who we might become—if we don’t quit.

Five years ago was the last time I competed in anything. Ironically, it was weightlifting and not powerlifting, even though at heart I’m a fat powerlifter.

I didn’t stop competing because I hated it. I stopped because I wanted to stop lying to myself.

At the time, if you asked me what I wanted, I would’ve said a bigger snatch, a bigger deadlift, bigger numbers. But honestly? I just didn’t want to be a twig anymore.

As a 6’3 long-limbed natural lifter, building the physique I want is probably going to be a lifelong pursuit. And that’s okay with me because lifting is one of the few things I genuinely love. I think about it every single day.

I still plan on hitting the platform again one day. I love competing. The pressure doesn’t scare me, it excites me.

But right now, I want to chase the goal I actually care about most: getting as big and strong as I can while staying healthy.

I’m 33 now. I gave myself until 35 to fully commit to that goal before reevaluating what comes next.

This post isn’t really about reminiscing. It’s just a reminder to train for the goals you actually want — not the ones you think you’re supposed to want.

If you love this stuff, you probably aren’t quitting anytime soon. And one day you’ll be 50 wishing you had started sooner.

So get after it.

You win some and you lose some.

Meet didn’t go as planned because I missed all of my clean & jerks (shoutout to passing out on all my jerks). I did have a solid snatch day and I’ll take that. Definitely going to lock in more on my next prep whether that’s Nationals Week or Florida States.

Although I couldn’t perform, the team as a whole balled out, placing 2nd in the nation for women’s, 4th for men’s, and 5th for co-ed. As a club team, being able to out perform scholarship teams every year is beyond impressive.

This trip was also a learning experience to coach some athletes during their sessions (@nick.groth @logan.stchur @huntley_moore2 ). Coaching was a fun experience and everyone performed at a high level‼️Shoutout to @riceandcleans for the opportunity.

Lastly wanted to thank @lindenwoodweightlifting and @lsusweightlifting for all the help counting team points because it was a nightmare😭

Looking forward to fighting for the championship title next year!!

Semester 3 ✅

Best semester yet by far. I had so much fun, more music, more engineering shenanigans, more weightlifting, but most importantly more fun with the people I love.

Also shoutout Coach Mike for the awesome freestyle 😎
