It’s Memorize Monday again! This week, I’m excited to share a technique I learned from the brilliant late Harold Guskin (through his book “How to Stop Acting”) and my incredible teacher @richardehess back in @ccmacting : “Lift the Text!” 📖 Watch to learn more and discover how to “lift the text” and make those lines stick!

Best Kept Secret 🗝️

Sometimes when I get too caught up in the monotony of the daily grind, magical coincidences happen out of nowhere that bring back that sense of awe for life. Now I absolutely love my new job, but thought this 2 day trip was just going to be fairly routine and business as usual. From the rear of the plane, I did my usual PA announcements with the same verbal flair and aim for tonal perfection I channel into my voiceover work. I then walk over to the middle of the cabin to position myself for my safety demo, and who I do see in front of me in the 5th row —- my friend and Drama Desk nominated and Off Broadway Alliance winning actress and playwright Jessica Hendy —who I was very lucky to spotlight in my talk show pilot WALK ‘N’ TALK WITH GERALD for her incredible one-woman musical WALKING WITH BUBBLES — which premiered around this time last year! She was looking effortlessly stunning as always. She said she could tell by my voice it might have been on me on the PA. It was so great to see you Jessica —your presence brought me joy and transported right back to your show and listening to you sing your heart out on stage. You truly are the real deal! #WalkingWithBubbles #DramaDeskNominee #OffBroadwayAllianceWinner #OffBroadway #NYCTheater #ActorSuccessStories #EmpoweringWomen #mentalhealthawareness #NYCStories #MakeItHappen

✨“Actress Jessica Hendy sings and narrates an autobiographical one-woman show that is powerful, searing, and sometimes anguished (but ultimately resilient), drawn from her real-life experiences of shattered dreams and trying to move on. Palpable despair and sorrow make this a tough trek–a fasten-your-seatbelts rollercoaster ride–but the vulnerability and catharsis can make you hang on and hang in through this tale of how she valiantly did the same. As a saga of sorrows and survival, it can be gripping and painful, but stay the course for the life lessons and perspective.”✨

🎉 🤩 Thank you Bobby Patrick @OfficialBroadwayWorld for your lovely review of the Walking With Bubbles cast recording!

🫧 "It seems strange to call a recording born of a solo performance a Cast Recording but we guess that’s what WWB must be since Jessica was the only “cast” and this musical play was her own story. Having seen this show, though, Bobby can assure all our rainbow readers that Jessica is more than up to the challenge of presenting her story on her own. Possessed of a clear, bright, clarion voice that is filled with emotion, Hendy (book) and co-creator Brianna Barnes (music & lyrics) have matched Jessica’s voice to seven songs that are hung like jewels throughout Hendy’s monologue, and all combine, track by track, weaving the story of how she became an actress, then a wife, then a mom, then a single mom, and then an actress all over again." 🫧
