THE TWO SIDES OF JEKYLL & HYDE There is something fitting about two choreographers collaborating on a ballet about the divided self. Each brings a distinct imagination, a different way of working, and a personal understanding of what movement can reveal. Yet the result must become a single work, with its own dramatic identity. For choreographers Ja’ Malik and Richard Walters, that challenge is part of the attraction of creating Jekyll & Hyde, a new full-length ballet opening the company’s 45th anniversary season. See JEKYLL & HYDE @ Madison Youth Arts Center October 29 - November 1, 2026 (And hear more about the creative process behind Jekyll & Hyde in EP 15 of At the Barre with Madison Baller. Available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Amazon Music!) . . . #dancepodcast #balletpodcast #madisonart #madisondance madisonballet

What an honor it was to have Robin Pettersen, Richard Walters and Fernanda Yamaguchi working with us the past 2 weeks! We are so grateful to all of them for their genius creativity and guidance of our dancers. 🌟🤍 Thank you to those of you who were able to come support the dancers at last Friday’s informal showing! Mark your calendars for Friday, October 30 to see Richard’s, Robin’s, and the students’ new works (plus some surprises) at Fall for Dance! 🍂🧑‍🩰

We had a wonderful week this past week, beginning our third annual Choreographic Mentorship Residency! We’re so lucky to have Robin Pettersen and Richard Walters mentoring our students’ works again this year, AND Fernanda Yamaguchi of Madison Ballet teaching the students too! 🧑‍🩰 Next week, Richard will begin setting a brand new work on the dancers, as the student choreographers continue work on their pieces. All of these works plus an excerpt of Robin’s new work will be performed at our Informal Showing next Friday 9/4 at 7:00pm at John M. Hall Auditorium. The showing will be free and open to the public! 🌟
