40 YEARS. ONE VERY SPECIAL NIGHT. ❤️
Still processing everything that happened at Symphony Space.

The Klezmatics celebrated 40 years surrounded by old friends, new friends, collaborators and a sold-out NYC audience — with Janis Ian, Susan McKeown, Janis Siegel, Danny Blume, Lavender Light GospelK7 Choir and Emma’s Revolution joining us onstage.
We celebrated our history with Woody Guthrie with Anna Canoni in the house. Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal presented the band with a proclamation honoring 40 years of music. And somewhere between rehearsed songs and completely unexpected moments, it all became something bigger than we had planned.

Thank you to everyone who made this night possible — onstage, backstage and in the audience.
Here are 20 moments from a night we won’t forget.

40 years of The Klezmatics. And we’re not done yet.

We created the Four Roads To Freedom Project as a joyous reminder that people don’t just cry out for social justice. We can sing out, too.

Join us on October 17th as we explore the role of music in movements past and present. Together, with song, work, and kindness, we can build a better tomorrow.

Mozel tov to my friends and comrades The Klezmatics on the 20th anniversary edition of their album “Wonder Wheel: Lyrics by Woody Guthrie” which was named Best Contemporary World Music Album at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony in 2007, the first Klezmer group to win a Grammy. I could not be more proud of the recording and touring that I had the privilege to take part in (thank you Lisa❤️) with these intrepid musical explorers and it was a thrill being a guest member for a few years — a dream gig with dream players and singers. Nora Guthrie has such a knack for matching collaborators with her Pop’s lyrics and Wonder Wheel as well as the preceding album “Woody Guthrie’s Happy Joyous Hanukkah” are no exceptions. Their special show on Thu 9/24 at Symphony Space will be an extra joyous one and I only wish I could be there, but I’ll be cheering them with big love on across the miles.👏👏👏
