Richmond High School is a great example of material reuse.

When Richmond High was initially built, a funding shortfall meant that the landscape ended up being primarily concrete. After a few years, the school fundraised and worked with the wider school community to develop plans for a new landscape that reflected their values.

Among other things, they wanted a landscape that foregrounded sustainability.

SBLA, together with the school community, Hallmark Landscapes, Aunty Doreen Garvey-Wandin and Emma Capper, decided to retain and reuse the existing concrete on site.

Expanses of the existing concrete were sawn into large slabs, while other pieces were stacked to reference geological strata. The stacks double as planter walls and seating.

Among the concrete planters are coir logs made from coconut fibre, which will biodegrade over time while stabilising the planter edges.

Loose concrete slabs form exaggerated crazy-paving pathways, which have been interplanted with flourishing groundcovers. The permeable paving directs water runoff towards acacia and blackwood seedlings.

Plants flower year-round, with wattle in winter and native daisies in spring. Together with the areas of lawn, these elements create many flexible spaces for play.

❤️💚”We got a love thang” 🖤💛Juneteenth 2026 in Richmond… from the beautiful parade to the family friendly festival with thousands of folks, food, fun, live bands, and dancing at Nicholl Park. Plus, a bonus afterparty hosted by @chucktbeats playing Yay Area classics @the_factory_bar (MC Hammer Typewriter Dance Challenge) 🎵

A huge thanks to Richmond’s Juneteenth Committee & @cityofrichmondca for their amazing dedication. Richmond has been hosting Juneteenth festivities for decades prior to it becoming a federal holiday and we want to express gratitude to Mr. Jerrold Hatchett for keeping this tradition alive and thriving!

Pullman neighborhood’s own, Valarie Robinson was the official parade announcer and “The Godmother”-Co-President Naomi Williams making sure it all went according to plan, and sound & music by @redkickskrewe

See you next year!!✊🏽

Every single public school across Victoria is facing cuts under Labor.

The cuts in our community add up to almost $20 million. Abbotsford Primary. Fitzroy Primary. Richmond High. Collingwood College. Melbourne Girls College is losing $5.1 million. All 12 schools. Every one of them.

And this week the Auditor General confirmed what we already knew: Labor hands out school upgrades based on political factors, not need.

Labor can find $400 million for a corporate stand at the Grand Prix. But not for our kids. Our teachers deserve better. Our families deserve better. Our children deserve better.

Fun Fact: Chase now has 10 Basketball Academies!

Our journey started at APC in 2011, 9 schools and 15 years later, we couldn’t be more proud! We’ve seen athletes go on to successful college and NBL1 careers. While others remain in our programs as coaches and are leading the next generation!

We are continuing to grow the Academy program and look forward to introducing even more Academies, senior programs and special days with NBL teams. 🏀
