As the NBA celebrates the 50th anniversary of the ABA-NBA merger, how about a few more collaborations to honor the ABA’s legacy?

❤️Golden State Warriors × Oakland Oaks

🤍Utah Jazz × Utah Stars

💙Miami Heat × Miami Floridians

Three markets with incredible ABA history, legendary players, unforgettable uniforms and stories that deserve to be celebrated.

Imagine throwback jerseys, tributes to former ABA players, special game nights and opportunities to introduce a new generation of fans to the league that helped revolutionize basketball.

The NBA’s four surviving ABA franchises are rightfully getting attention this season. But the ABA’s impact extended well beyond those four teams.

The 50th anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate the entire ABA legacy, not just the teams that survived the merger.

We’ve seen firsthand through Soul Power: The Legend of the ABA how much these stories and the people behind them still matter.

Who else would love to see these collaborations happen?

I have now posted the video of my interview w/ Basketball Hall of Famer Jamaal Wilkes on the Chasing Hardware YouTube channel (in addition to the podcast being on all major platforms).

The list of Jamaal’s accolades is insane: 2x All American & 2x National Champ at UCLA, multiple time All Star and All Defensive team in the NBA, a ring at Golden State as a rookie and 3 titles with the Lakers during the Showtime era.

The clip here explores his move to LA and the experience of playing with both Bill Walton and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Great stories from an icon of the game who was one of the sport’s greatest champions.

My mother had 5 children in Lagos, Nigeria 🇳🇬, the 1st kid died , so she had a 5th (Me).

She remained a widow, & I would see men very sporadically in the house all the time.

I asked my mother : why don’t you remarry or date any of these guys seriously.

She responded back to me : Edikan, they are going to take attention of me raising my children correctly, my focus is my children.

Since 1992, closed shop, she turned 69 this past July 8th, 2026.

All of her children have more than 2 degrees & we don’t live in Africa, anymore or need military intervention & subsidy’s.

We have unmarried baby mothers in LA, California & NYC, New York State that can’t even take care of one child by themselves because they are hoes, & got pumped & dumped.

So sorry to lose a friend. This is a picture of me with George Karl and the late great Bob Pettit . You could never meet a nicer gentleman and greater player. Bob revolutionized the power forward position.

The 1965 Draft had some serious names hiding throughout the board. Gail Goodrich went 10th and eventually became the class’s leading NBA scorer with 19,181 points, just ahead of Rick Barry whose total becomes even crazier when you remember he spent several prime seasons playing in the ABA. Two very different careers, but both ended with championships, Hall of Fame inductions and places among the defining guards of their era 🏀🔥

There are some great stories further down too. Twins Dick and Tom Van Arsdale were selected back-to-back at 13th and 14th, then somehow finished their NBA careers only 847 points apart. Bob Love became a three-time All-Star after falling to 36th, Billy Cunningham averaged over 20 a night across his NBA career, while Jerry Sloan made two All-Star teams and became one of the early faces of the Bulls long before his legendary coaching career 👀

The totals obviously look different compared to what we’re used to seeing today, and there’s plenty of context behind that, particularly with Barry and Cunningham spending portions of their careers in the ABA. Still, ten players from a draft held more than 60 years ago reaching 8,000 NBA points is nothing to brush aside. Which name from the 1965 class do you think had the best career? 🤔⬇️
