KILL YOUR DARLINGS
by Yuvrashri Harish @yuvanissue
Putnam Books
Horror/Sci-Fi & Fantasy/Teens & YA
Release: October 6, 2026

What do you do when your literary hero turns out to be an actual monster? That’s what Thulasi has to figure out as we follow her story and uncover secrets hidden in the small town of Applesweet. Thulasi is a good girl. She always does what she’s told, and she puts family above all else. On Halloween night, she has to miss out on her best friend’s party to keep her seven-year-old cousin. What Thulasi thinks is going to be a simple play date turns into the literal Halloween from Hell. They accidentally summon a group of monsters led by the infamous Addison Greer, and now they spend the night defying death and trying to put the world right again before they lose everyone they’ve ever loved.

What a knockout for a debut novel. I picked this book up by title alone. Anyone who’s been in writing circles has heard that you have to kill your darlings more than once. Harish, however, takes it to a whole other level. Maybe you have to kill your darlings and also your heroes. I love a book set around Halloween, so I was already going in with high hopes, but what a fun read!! Thulasi is dealing with racism, high school, and now demons. As one of the only brown girls in the school, she just tries to keep people from noticing her. This book touches on this topic in such a nuanced way that is simple and easy to see while still keeping it light enough to be a fun horror novel. I recommend this to horror lovers, YA and ages above that! #KillYourDarlings

PERFECT WIVES, PERFECT LIES
by Jennifer Anne Gordon
Narrated by Xe Sands
Podium Entertainment
Mystery & Thriller / Literary Fiction

Becca has had a streak of bad luck over the past few years. After losing her son, her husband leaving her, and her best friend becoming distant, she’s feeling lost and alone. Thank goodness she still has her Mommy Wine Time Facebook group. One day, she gets a DM to be added to a more exclusive Mommy chat, and it turns her whole world around. She’s spending hours not only pretending to be a happily married mom and wife, but she is also learning the deep, dark secrets of this group of women. How far will she go before it’s too late to turn back?

I am shocked to say that this is my first novel by Jennifer Anne Gordon, but it definitely will not be my last. It’s giving modern-day Desperate Housewives. These are the women you hear about who have exclusive clubs and group chats. They’re devious and cunning and sometimes criminal. While this book leans more toward thriller, you can definitely tell that Gordon has a knack for writing horror elements. I got the same creepy feeling as watching Don’t Worry Darling, where everything just feels on the edge of cracking, and you can’t help but watch. These are the stories that stick with you because they’re based just enough on real life to unnerve you. I highly recommend you give this book a read! #PerfectWivesPerfectLies

Psychological Fiction

This follows the unraveling friendship between Billie West and Cassie Barnwell after Billie impulsively kidnaps Cassie’s infant daughter, setting off a tense, emotionally charged chain of events. As the story alternates between the present and the women’s shared past, long-buried secrets, childhood trauma, and growing resentment reveal how their old unbreakable bond became toxic. Blending psychological suspense with an exploration of friendship, this book examines loyalty, jealousy, and the lasting impact of the choices people make.

This book took me totally by surprise. I didn’t know anything about it going in but it was a refreshing change of pace from books I have been reading lately. There were some disturbing moments between Billie and her step-father. I do highly recommend this book to anyone who reads psychological or darker friction. #ByeBaby
