This was filmed in July by TC board member @Rickridgeway, about a week after nearly 350 three-toed box turtles arrived at our triage facility. U.S. Fish & Wildlife intercepted them at LAX, illegally poached and likely bound for China. Around 50 didn't survive long enough to reach us. In those first days, our team worked around the clock to bring losses down from dozens to just two or three a night. Months later, the survivors are still with us. The healthiest have settled into a new greenhouse habitat, and we're working with Dr. Brad Shaffer at UCLA to trace where they were taken from, so that one day they can go home. Meanwhile, the confiscations haven't slowed: another 100+ box turtles arrived just a month after this was filmed. Spent an incredible week in Athens with my work hat on, but squeezed in a few hours to explore the city’s best #preloved mecca, hike up to the Parthenon, and love on some cats! Highlights from the @cascale_org Annual Meeting included interviewing social and environmental sustainability leaders, catching up with visionary @rickridgeway backstage, and meeting amazing colleagues who previously only existed in a zoom box. Then, a European Cotton Alliance tour of regenerative cotton farms (fun fact: Greece produces 80% of EU cotton), up close with miracles of Hellenic engineering, and a 13th century castle in stunning Levadeia — with lunch at the brand-new, beautiful @trofonios_hotel. 바다를 글로만 읽은 사람은 실제 바다는 어떤 모습일지 상상한다. . 70년대의 훼손되지 않은 야생을 글로만 읽은 사람은 그들이 훼손되지 않은 곳에서 보낸 시간들을 상상한다. . 대한민국이라는 작은 나라, 그보다 더 작은 내 방에서 이 책들을 읽으며 태어나 한 번도 해본 적 없는 그들의 스포츠를 영상을 찾아보고, 사진을 찾아보며 내 나름대로 상상의 퍼즐을 맞춰본다. . 이들은 그저 자신들이 즐기고, 기록으로 남긴 것들이 다른 사람에게 어떤 영향을 줄지 몰랐을 것이다. . 암벽등반을, 서핑을, 카약을 한 번도 접해보지 못한 사람에게 그들이 경험했던 자연과 모험을 보여주고, . 지금은 훼손되지 않은 곳을 찾는 것조차 어려운 시대에 훼손되기 전 자연의 아름다움을 간접적으로나마 나눌 수 있게 해주었다. . 국립공원을 만들었다는 단순한 결과만 중요한 것이 아니라, 그것을 만들어내기까지 몇십 년 동안 고군분투했던 과정, 수많은 어려움 속에서도 끝까지 밀고 나갔던 그들의 의지가 더 기억에 남는다. . 사업과 자연보호라는 모순 속에서 조금이라도 덜 오염시키는 방법을 찾는 일은 어쩌면 아주 외로운 싸움이었을 것이다. . 최근 네팔의 빙하쓰나미로 인해 많은 사람들이 삶의 터전을 잃은 모습을 보았다. . 기후위기에 더 큰 책임이 있는 나라들이 있는데, 왜 자연의 아름다움이 남아 있는 그곳에서 순수하게, 그리고 힘겹게 생계를 이어가는 사람들이 그 피해를 고스란히 받아야 하는지. 세상은 참 불공평하다는 생각이 들었다. . 내가 살고 있는 이 지구가 더 이상 아프지 않기를 바랄 뿐이다. . 나는 세상을 크게 바꿀 수 있는 사람은 아니지만 요즘은 내가 할 수 있는 것이 무엇인지 생각한다. 내가 살아가는 방식부터 조금씩 바꾸는 것. 덜 소비하고, 오래 쓰고, 자연을 더 사랑하고, 내가 배운 것들을 다른 사람과 나누는 것. . 작은 행동이라도 누군가에게 또 다른 생각을 만들어낼 수 있다면 그것으로 충분하지 않을까. . Once, they roamed freely across #california The grizzly—powerful, revered, woven into the land itself. And then, within a single century, they were gone. Once a symbol of California’s wild abundance, the grizzly bear was hunted to extinction in the name of expansion and control. Its absence is not empty—it is shaped by violence, mythmaking, and erasure. This work moves through that history, tracing the forces that removed the bear from its land while asking what it means to imagine its return. Rewilding becomes more than ecological; it is an act of memory, of reckoning, and of hope. Through movement, we bring back what history erased. Through breath, weight, and presence, dancers embody not only the animal—but the absence it left behind. This is not nostalgia. It is a reckoning. 파타고니아 이야기가 궁금해 책을 읽기 시작하다가 ‘Life Lived Wild, 지도 끝의 모험’을 읽게 되었다. . 70년대 사람들이 바라본 자연은 어땠을까. 글과 사진을 보며 보이지 않는 장면들을 자꾸 상상하게 된다. . 안전장비 없이, 오롯이 자기 몸으로 하는 스포츠. 해본 적이 없어서인지 고산 지대 등반은 더더욱 쉽게 그려지지 않는다. 그들이 느꼈을 희열과 위험은 어느 정도였을까. . 산사태로 동료를 잃고, 카약을 하다 가장 친한 친구를 잃었는데도 다시 산을 오르는 이유는 무엇일까. . 책을 읽으며 지금의 내 환경에서는 쉽게 만날 수 없는 사람들의 생각과 삶을 조금이나마 들여다보게 된다. . 어떻게 이런 삶을 선택하게 되었을까. 그 이유는 끝내 명확하게 설명되지 않는다. 그래서 더 오래 남는다. . 같은 방향을 바라보는 사람들과 서로에게 선한 영향을 주고받는 관계. 그게 조금은 부럽다. . 직접 만나볼 수 없는 사람들이지만 이 책들을 다시 읽다 보면 조금은 더 많은 이야기를 들을 수 있을 것 같다.

WILD LIFE TURNS 3! 🎉🌎 Three years ago, #WildLifeFilm premiered for the first time at @sxsw. The world was invited into the extraordinary journey of two people who believed saving nature was worth everything.
