{ I want to write these words in Urdu or Panjabi but my mother tongue is too young for such complex notions. My colonised tongue is stronger too. So my words and tongue, end up in a knot, stuck in my heart not making it to the surface.

This morning I watched @thecaravanmagazine video (in stories/highlights) and again words tried to rise, try to break the surface and into existence but couldn’t.

Yazzie Jaan @standforhumanity thank you for allowing me to share your words and message; of oneness and unity and raising our voices in the diaspora, in humanity to join our kin who are marching, protesting, singing, chanting and showing up.

I am reminded time and time again that the liberation of those who are oppressed, is indeed our own liberation. Liberation from the binds of capitalist supremacist ideology that makes us forget we are all part of a global community, who relies on one another. That what we do, how we consume or how we stay silent, effects others. We need to move away from the toxicity of individualism and embrace community.

How? We can disrupt the narratives of the oppressors by amplifying the silenced, the often unseen, unheard!

Please keep amplifying, please keep sharing!

It will be a bit more light hearted from our first episode, and hopefully provide some laughs for your mid week enjoyment!

Swipe to hear our snippet where we laugh at “chai tea” and “naan bread” - literally means tea tea, and bread bread. So yeah let’s stop that ok?! 😅

{ “ I am your friend. a soul for your soul. a place for your life. home. know this. sun or water. here or away. we are a lighthouse. we leave. and we stay”

I’ve been stuck for words to accompany these pictures, so I borrowed some from the great @nayyirah.waheed

These last few months, I’ve been drawn deeper and deeper into the depths of my culture, identity, ethnicity and closer to friendships where I feel safe to explore those freely and vulnerably.

Rabya was always a lighthouse for me. Yes we drifted apart for a few years but only because we were growing up in different cities. As soon as we got in touch again, it was like that gap had never happened. In fact the last few months of not being able to see each other has felt a lot longer than those awkward adolescent years we missed.

Frolicking in a field of flowers for a few hours was a tonic. There hadn’t been much planning beforehand but we turned up, got dressed in the fields, fixing each other’s hair, tikas and adjusting a dupatta here and saree there.

We really hope you enjoy all the pictures from this photoshoot. It’s a celebration of what we can achieve together, of what we are yet to do and our roots.

Plussssss....Swipe to the end for a little intro snippet of our Spill The Chai podcast too! Eek! It’s been produced by the wonder that is @lucylucraft (also occasional co-host) and the artwork is by the lovely @heyimsakina !! } A series of pictures in a sunflower field with Rida and Rabya. Brown women with dark brown hair. Rabya wears a pink and yellow desi outfit, Rida wears a lilac top and green saree. They’re wearing desi jewellery. Pops of yellow of the sunflowers and greenery can be seen. We are holding a pink and yellow dupatta in the air. Laughing.
