Far from the maddening crowd.

Not far at all, really, but just far enough.

And if you've ever had the pleasure of riding Canoe's, on the South Shore of Oahu, on a teeny tiny little day, you'll understand where I'm coming from with it.

Perfectly clean, nice clear warm water, light offshores, and these teency weency little waves are coming in, and they're standing up, and they stand up enough to catch them, but then, after you've caught them, the wave enters a sort of stasis, where it neither continues to steepen and break, nor backs off, but instead, it just... goes, and sometimes it goes for a ridiculous distance like that, never breaking, never backing off, and you're riding along giggling like a five year old, and the wave lets you divide your attention to the wider world around you, and as you're riding this thing, you can fully see, fully appreciate, and fully immerse yourself in the fact that it's a truly wonderful world, and you glide and glide and glide, and finally, the wave really does back off, and on many occasions it never did break, and when the ride's over, you're sitting there, grinning and giggling, and then you turn the nose of your board back toward the horizon, and you paddle back out to catch another one.

And it was like that, today.

Except that it was utter, complete, and truly splendid isolation.

Not another soul to be seen.

Just you and the sky, and the water, and the land, with nothing going on, nothing filling or occupying any of the Three Great Domains, all coming together in the most harmonious way possible, with you sitting there grinning at the nexus of it all.

And this is what happened today, and this is what happened to Marie, and she's no fool, and she understood perfectly, exactly what was going on.

And I'm in there with my camera, equally understanding, and I'm grabbing frame after frame after frame of this beautiful woman at the nexus of it all, and the bewitching hour only lasted just about an actual, single hour, and then it was over, but by then it was inside of both of us, and nobody was ever going to be able to take it away from us, and we were, and we are, improved by it, and... isn't that nice?

Yes. Yes it is nice

Happy Mother’s Day to my mommaaaa 🤍🌷

Elijah seriously got the best Grammie ever and I’m pretty sure half his personality comes from being spoiled by you 😂

Thank you for always showing up for us. For loving my little dude so big. For helping me through motherhood, meltdowns, chaos, stress, and all the “wtf am I doing” moments.

And to Elijah… being your mama is my favoriteee thing in the world. Even when you leave snack wrappers in my car and ask me 47 questions before 8am. 😂

This motherhood thing is messy and exhausting and beautiful all at the same time… but man am I grateful for it.

And happy Mother’s Day to ✨alllllll✨ my sweet mama friends too. Y’all are raising little humans while surviving on caffeine and pure determination and that deserves a trophy honestly. 🤍

They put on a pretty good show today.

Head on over there to read all about it, if you want.

The light and color kept changing around, and I had to keep chasing it.

Not sure if I caught it or not, but I tried.

And today, the light, the colors, and the highs and the lows, all had this mysterious, ever-changing, muted, symmetrical beauty to them.
